1st June 2010

“President Bush has nominated James Holsinger, a man who believes that homosexuality is a lifestyle from which a person can recover, as surgeon general. Let us pray for a day in which ideology will not trump medical knowledge in federal appointments.”

Religious people will appoint like-minded religious nominees. It’s a shame and it’s narrow minded, but unfortunately it’s a fact.

  2. solomon Says:

To whom you’re gonna pray. Don’t forget, you have no God.

  3. GoodWithoutGod Says:

“Don’t forget, you have no God.”

Neither do you, Solomon. But only one of us is smart enough to realize it.

  4. GoodWithoutGod Says:

BTW, what’s with the quote referencing Bush’s presidency?

  5. solomon Says:

    GoodWithoutGod,
Then what’s the point of asking to pray?

  6. solomon Says:

The Atheists, however they twist & turn, they are gettin’ no where. The only way they’re goin’ is HELL!

  7. GoodWithoutGod Says:

    Yay Hell!! Woooohoooo!! Party on!

  8. tech Says:

I believe in God therefore I pray to him.The must first recite and mean it the sinners prayer.

  9. tech Says:

thats suppose to read ” the atheist must first recite and mean it the sinner’s prayer.

  10. John Says:

tech: “thats suppose to read ” the atheist must first recite and mean it the sinner’s prayer.” do you not mean – fanciful wish myths?

  11. John Says:

Besides, de-bush was a very dark stain on the USA. Bill left a white stain and de-bush left a shit stain…

  12. John Says:

Happy days… Mustafa Abu Yazid; Al Qaeda’s No. 3 man and commander of its operations in Afghanistan has died. And dead he is, no gods, no virgins and no pity, just worm food.

  13. Atheist MC Says:

Well I’m with Solomon on the pointless “Let’s pray” bit.

The quote seems largely irrelevent now except to demonstrate a general priciple that dogmatic religious belief should be kept out of the public sphere.

  14. tech Says:

MC athiest you would sure love that wouldn’t you. God Almighty will have the last say no matter what the atheist thinks. I pray toGod whom I believe in that he will have mercy.

  15. CaptainZero1969 Says:

The root causes of homosexuality are a scientific question. Thus far ‘sin’ doesn’t seem to be a contributing factor but genetics do and upbringing might. But when you are religious, why let objective reality intrude on your fantasy world of prejudice and hatred?

  16. Atheist MC Says:

God Almighty will have the last say no matter what the atheist thinks.

Well if that’s the case, would you and the rest of your ilk stop speaking for him and let him speak for himself? It’s been 1300 years since his last posting and we could do with an update. You know, one that actually accords with objective reality as we now understand it. Maybe his own blog! what do you think?

  17. NoReflection Says:

SOLOMON ,I DID NOT CREATE HELL OR GOD BUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAVE , HOW ABOUT NO RELIGION AND NO ATHEIST`S .HAS FREEDOM EVER CROSSED ANYBODY`S MIND ASK PLATO , SOCRATES ASK ME , THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY OUT AND THAT`S TO UNITE ,FEED THE WOLF WHO WANTS PEACE ,NOT THE ONE WHO WANT`S HATRED ,WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN ,,ON A DIFFERENT PERIMETER ,,IF YOU HAVEN`T NOTICED OUR BLOOD ALL RUN`S RED

  18. Atheros Says:

Well the Hell threats are flowing again… Can you guys think of something more original – at least entertain us with your threats! If we have to read ’em make ’em good!!

Now – I thought all Dr’s et al swore something called the Hippocratic oath, where they pledge to do their very best for their patients in care etc. So, to me when one refuses help because of religious dogma then they are breaking their own oath and in my book that means they should be struck off and lose licence to practice!! If that guy in the quote truly believes that gays can be cured then he should have been struck off too – for blatant stupidity!

And as for Bush – well, nothing he did or does surprises me anymore.

  19. solomon Says:

The Atheists are born with the evil powerpack. There’s nothing left to cure them. The only effort is to retard their influence.

  20. Atheist MC Says:

Hey! I’ve got an evil powerpack? Who knew? It’s like I’m some kind of super villain, cool!

  21. John Says:

If one has the power of satan in the right hand and the power of god in the left hand; one still has nothing in either hand, hum….. how profound!

    Powerpacks, for sure??

  22. CaptainZero1969 Says:

I’d like to trade my Evil Powerpack for an Evil Jetpack. That way I cold get to hell for happy hour and still be home for dinner. I wonder what Satan’s exchange policy is…

  23. GoodWithoutGod Says:

“The Atheists are born with the evil powerpack. There’s nothing left to cure them. The only effort is to retard their influence.”

LOL. “Put your phasers on ‘Retard’!”

I think you had your weapon pointed the wrong way when you were trying to retard the atheists….

    Just sayin’.

  24. tech Says:

Satans exchange policy is:Continue on the way you are going for your soul.

  25. The Heretic Says:

The way Solomon and tech talk about Satan all of the time (and his purported residence) you’d think they were both on a first name basis with the guy.

So… how is the ole SOB and when is the last time y’all spoke?

  26. CaptainZero1969 Says:

On a serious note, it DOES say something important, I think, about the way our theistic friends are fixated on sin, punishment and hell. I’ve got to think it might be a relief to give up this sense that everybody around you is demonic and sinful and doomed. Sorry, but living this way cannot be healthy and it shows from the comments they post here.

  27. Atheist MC Says:

Yes. I suspect that if we were to concentrate our vocal disbelief on the rest of the Abrahamic pantheon. Satan, Angels, Djinn, Incubi, Succubi, Cherubim, Seraphim(who said Islam/Christianity isnt polytheistic) we would get the same response.

  28. Braathwaate Says:

Didn’t Ted Haggard prove that to be true?
