3rd July 2010

“It is the withering away of belief the religious really fear because it reveals a mass of people not interested in religion – and as they are by and large law abiding and generally kind to one another they are at a loss as to how to deal with it.”

Yea, the boogeyman is no longer under the bed or in the closet.

  2. Grumpy Old Git Says:

Agreed. The old ploy of “Trust me, I am a man of God”, simply does not work any more. The ‘men of God’ have shown themselves to be more bloodthirsty and/or sexually deviant and morally bankrupt than the general population. Where is ‘The Truth’ now?

Thought this was funny but sad. http://current.com/items/92523937_a-short-story-from-the-adventures-of-an-atheist-at-a-christian-high-school.htm?xid=PTNiGoog

    Edmond,(to yesterdays comments)

First you have to know that Allah is all powerful, then you have to understand how God works.
God won’t simply punish anyone without cause. He won’t instantly dispose them. God gave them time & chance to think it over the truth that have been delivered thru his messengers. All you guys thought of are the minor phenomenon that have been goin on like what youve mention..famine, deformed babies or amputees. Don’t you ever have the thought what God have given billions of living creatures good life & sustenance throughout the entire time till today. Where can you find a better God than Allah?

All the time youre hanging on to Nature without serious thought, just following your silly masters. You did’nt even know what form of a being nature is. An unknown entity that have the intelligence of making possible of the existence & processes that need high intelligence & technology to make it possible? What a bullshit simple word Nature that could thought of everything.

    Grumpy Old Git,
Indeed a funny & sad short story. Qoran does not cite such silly claims. Get back to Allah folks.

  6. John Says:

Old sollie… one can say things are anything big and wondrous when it is all made up and in and from the land of make believe. How stupid can a thinking human be? Next you will be telling us how we are to kill non believers with another of the magic-beings creations; the AK-47.

  7. solomon Says:

Nobody’s telling Islam is about hapilly killing non believers. You’re a silly moron to cite such rubbish.

  8. John Says:

Right sollie, Aiza (an ex burqa wearing muslim) told me you folks call it al-taqiya.

  9. Edmond Says:

Solomon, people DO say that Islam is about happily killing non-believers. You suggested as much YOURSELF, yesterday: “Its better off to have their heads chopped off coz’ they did’nt know how to use it.” How about leaving people’s heads where they are, no matter WHAT they believe? My atheism does not make your faith weaker.

Why does god have to “gave them time & chance to think it over the truth that have been delivered thru his messengers”? He KNOWS what decisions we’re ultimately going to make, right? He KNOWS if I’m ever going to convert to Islam before I die, right? If god is there, then he is either LETTING people be atheists, which means you should too, OR he can’t do anything about it, which means he’s not much of a god.

But it’s funny that you complain that we focus on the bad things like amputees and disease, instead of looking at all the good things. That’s like saying, “Ignore those deformed babies over there, look at all the flowers!” Absurd. God’s worst work is either a testament to his incompetence, his evil, or his non-existence.

And Nature is not a “being”. It’s just the process of the laws of physics coming together, often at random, to shape matter and energy. Sometimes it creates good things, sometimes bad things. No “being” is involved, no one is to blame for the bad or worship for the good.

To say something like “First you have to know that Allah is all powerful, then you have to understand how God works”, is just nonsense, it literally has no meaning. To “know” something you need empirical evidence. No religion has any. When people say they “know” things about their god, what they’re really doing is just guessing and speculating, or they’re just believing other people’s guesses. Knowledge comes from research, from testable experiments that can be repeated for other people. Not from reading something in a book and believing it. Especially a book about magic powers and talking animals.

Solomon said “you have to understand how God works”

Funny thing, Solomon, is that your god “works” (mysteriously) the way YOU AND YOUR FELLOW ZEALOTS want him to!

    Co-inky-dink? I think not.

  11. solomon Says:

Who accounts for the delicate laws of nature. Is it your bullshit ‘Nature’ again?

  12. solomon Says:

Sorry…it should read..Who accounts for the delicate laws of physics?

  13. Edmond Says:

Why would a god live by laws? He can do anything he wants! Are there laws of physics in heaven, or hell? If not, why do we need them here? Nature does not account for the laws of physics, they pretty much account for themselves. The universe could not operate any other way. What kind of a god is restricted by laws?
