“I prefer rationalism to atheism. The question of God and other objects-of-faith are outside reason and play no part in rationalism, thus you don't have to waste your time in either attacking or defending.”

Isaac Asimov1920 – 1992

    Yup, but it’s fun.

  2. Atheist MC Says:

The beliefs of religion are outside reason, but religious belief isn’t. Why so many of us are saddled with this need for the supernatural is interesting and worth investigating.
Also, atheism implies rationalism and has less syllables.

  3. Grumpy Old Git Says:

Good point Isaac, and yours, AMC, but I find that I never waste time defending my atheism or attacking religions. I don’t have to. I may have to spend time explaining the basic principles of logic and rationalism in general terms, and point out the flawed logic inherent in religious belief but that is different to attacking the religious belief itself. A hell of a lot more syllables, I agree, AMC, but what price truth?

  4. solomon Says:

Don’t talk about the basic principles of logic. You did’nt even know what is absolute logic is all about. Creationism is absolute logic that can no way be refuted.

  5. Atheist MC Says:

Is it though? Religion tries to put itself above criticism to the extent that any attempt to point out the holes in it is inevitably seen as an attack.

I would agree with the quote that religion is a waste of time. Quibbling over the semantic differences/similarities of atheism vs rationalism is not exactly divisive, but I don’t see the point.

The different denominations of Christianity attack each other, and also other non-Christian religions, but they all unite to resist atheism/rationality or whatever label we use to describe ourselves. They can apply whatever negative connotations they want to any label we use, so using more titles or more descriptors of ourselves only provides more targets. It does not diminish the attacks from those who wish to impose their ideology on those who disagree with them. It is still a fundamental issue of freedom of thought. Religion’s attack on freethought(yet another label) is not based on reason, as today’s quote affirms. Yet, because nonbelievers are ostracized, we must expend the time to defend our ideas and attack attempts to proselytize us. Even if religion is a waste of time, it is out there and has to be confronted.

    sol:

Creationism is absolute logic that can no way be refuted.

Firstly, creationism has absolutely nothing to do with logic. What’s logical about it sol? Give us one logical argument about it.

Secondly, creationism can be refuted in many scientifically valid ways. If you want to ignore valid science, go ahead, stay living in ignorance!

I don’t mind being proselytised to so much as I mind the threat of my life being mandated by someone else’s beliefs. People can believe whatever bollocks they want to believe. I don’t mind if they want to share those beliefs as long as they are prepared to have them ridiculed when they are ridiculous. But I don’t want to live in a society that passes laws on the basis of bollocks. I want a rational, scientifically informed, secular society that guarantees my right to not believe in the fairies at the bottom of someone else’s garden.

  9. Margaret Says:

Well said Atheist MC. Agree with you 100%. I wanted to convey that sentiment, but just could not find the right words today.

  10. solomon Says:

The Atheists have no guidance, very sad.Their guidance is their lusts. Theyre lost wondering in confusion Just like animals. They might be even worse.
    Hypatia,
If you doubt creationism is the absolute logic to every existence, then find other explainations that can refute it. Evolution? It could’nt even provide a portion of a trillion part of existence for an explanation. It can’t even answere ‘who create the 1st. Design of everything. Cite one explaination if you can, be it science or other bullshits.

“Firstly, creationism has absolutely nothing to do with logic. What’s logical about it sol? Give us one logical argument about it.”

There you go Hypatia, you got exaclty what we expected. A load of garbage from the biggest producer of verbal waste here. Once again if you waste time engaging with the garbage man that is what happens.

logic does not exist in the garbage man’s world and he is NOT GOING TO CHANGE

  12. solomon Says:

    Gravity is not seen.
    Gravity exists.
    God is not seen.
    God exists.

  13. solomon Says:

Creationism has everything to do with logic.
You are one hell of a dude Godkilla.
When someone created something, that thing exists, the creator exists too. Is it not enough for a logical explanation?

  14. solomon Says:

‘Once again if you waste time engaging with the garbage man that is what happens.’

If not for the Garbage man your garbage must have been piled sky high GodKilla. Don’t look down on someone’s job.

  15. Braathwaat Says:

Solomon, creationism has nothing to do with logic (or science) here’s just one example of how Noah’s flood never happened.
