“Inspired by the Pope’s recent call to remember our country’s Christian roots I was wondering which particular roots we should return to. Burning Protestants or hanging Roman Catholic priests? Requiring Dissenters to live 10 miles from the City of London, or Roman Catholics 5 miles? And if we decide to execute the Archbishop of Canterbury should we burn him like Cranmer or behead him like Laud?”

Nope, he just wants to go back to the the days where you’re scrounging for a scrap of bread while living the plague, and he is controlling the king and king’s money and army. Of course, this wouldn’t be for Europe anymore, this would be worldwide.

Wait.. And HE’S the one calling atheists Nazis?

Many religions have bloody and brutal pasts. Looking back on them with nostalgia is myopic and ignorant at best, at worst – evil. But then, look at who we are talking about here.

We should feel sorry for the man that runs the modern catholic church. It must be incredibly frustrating for him to recall the good ‘ole days when people took the Pope’s words as law and silencing critics and dissenters was easy as a short drop and a sudden stop. Now even members of his flock can mock him without fear. But the news isn’t all bad. He still has a lifetime supply of pretty dresses and fabulous(!) hats, inexhaustible wealth (and a BIG thanks to the collection plate for that) and access to all the kids a creepy pederast could want.

Which makes me wonder… Is the church having a hard time signing up alter boys? I mean, what kind of parent lets their kid spend time in the rectory (really, rectory?) at this point? The child fucking wasn’t a small problem after all. It was widespread, involves tens of thousands of kids and was systematically covered up by the present Pope. Why don’t you just buy junior a Nile crocodile for a pet at his next birthday?

Just watched Stephen Fry’s poignant and highly charge speech from The Intelligence Debate. He’s talking about the flaws in the Catholic church. He pretty much covers it all. Amazingly well said.
