“As their dusty Churches crumble because nobody wants to go there, the few remaining Christians in Britain will only become more angry and uncomprehending. Let them. We can’t let this hysterical toy-tossing stop us from turning our country into a secular democracy.”

I wonder would Mr.Hari like a little cheese with his whining? The Church he speaks of is just a building.God will still have a people. Those whose lives have been redeemed by his dear Son Jesus Christ.

I think that the growing Muslim population in that country may have something to say about it.

TH – Whatever do you mean? The hidden premise seems to be one of your many uncited/unsupported immigrant-hating, unsubstantiated populist messages.

Muslims are not out-breeding “regular” folks and putting the countries of the world, or their borders, at risk. Take a few deep breaths, do some actual research, and let some of your anger go. Just as there were never WMD in Iraq, there are not caches of disembodiemd heads in Arizona (and Ronald Reagan was, at best, a mediocre president), you do not need to fear muslim babies.

Of course, these are just some of my beliefs backed by some modicum of research (which is at least semi-plausibly supportable). Give me some contradictory data and I am willing to reconsider any/all of these beliefs – are you?

    tech,
Of course the buildings Hari is referring to aren’t literal – the deteriorating buildings are a metaphor for the crumbling foundations of theology. As secular governments erase the need for religion, and science continues to disprove religious superstitions, religions become hollow reminders of archaic eras.

And as religious people become more and more behind-the-times, they start getting more and more shrill…. rather like you, in fact.

i’ not in your camp…but even so, i have to agree with your statement,
    ” God will still have a people. ” ………….true.
And, his people will always find a way to worship…even if it’s not inside a building…

maybe you’ve heard of Dr. Robert Schuller, and his famous ” drive-in”
church in the 1950’s. and, in early America , there were pastors called
“circuit riders” who would ride on horseback to the little settlements…
and preach while standing on a tree stump.

believers or atheists, your feelings are in your head and heart, and
then it doesnt matter WHERE you happen to be.

Yes, we know. There will always be suckers for the easy answers to life. Nothing surprising. Personally, I choose Tarvu. He makes it even easier to understand. Plus, I get to talk to an octopus! Have you talked to an octopus, sir?

    I think not!

I actually do agree, but I would rather have people worship in private (like Jesus actually instructed) than have them pridefully gallivanting around spreading their hate and hiding their bigotries behind a book and prophet that didn’t say one way or the other. It’s rather disgusting seeing peoples’ hate being used to inflate the ego of religious leaders.. So many are tools to this and it’s very disheartening..
