16th January 2008

“In the United States, while still far from being a theocratic state, the 'live and let live' tolerance of an earlier era has given way to in-your-face proselytizing – or, in Romney's case, demonizing. On the presidential campaign trail, ritual professions of Judeo-Christian faith have become a precondition for admission to the first, second, or any tier of candidates. Among the Democrats, you must have a favorite Bible passage or parable ready to cite. In the GOP camp, you better believe every word in the book as well.”

What is more, this is what Huckabee was saying a couple of days ago in Michigan:

“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”

    The audience thundered approval.

Amendment is a proper, legal way to change the constitution. Redefining constitutional terms to modify its opperation without the function of ratification is improper and that is what you should really concern yourself with. The reason you aren`t is because the contortions are to your interests and are being perpetrated by a judiciary friendly to your positions.

Now a theocracy is no more in the best interest of any single religious group (except maybe the catholics) than it is for you atheists. Very many religious groups didn`t agree with bushes religious contributions stipends. Many including myself think that creates a door that can be opened to occupation of religious institutions by the federal government the same way they stole responsibility of education away from states through federal funding. My personal political interests rest solely on the issue of abortion. If Thompson makes it to super tuesday I`m voting for him. If he doesn`t make it the only other person I agree with on that issue is huckabee. You want to stop huckabee???? Vote for thompson!

How do you feel about miscarriages? Those should probably be outlawed too I suppose. No, wait, let me guess, miscarraiges are the work of god therefore they are OK. Wow, see how easy it is to rationalize any stupid position when you can interject the hand of god as needed?

*You want to stop huckabee???? Vote for thompson!*

Both are pandering fools with nothing to say about life lived by intelligent prople in the 21st century. A vote for either one is a vote for the intellectual standards of the 12th century. We should all be worried about such people and their supporters.

    Irrelevant.

    * Those should probably be outlawed too I suppose. *

    Off topic.

    * No, wait, let me guess *

I NEVER allow it. Straw man arguments are infringments upon the prerogatives of those they target to frame their own positions. They are evidence of ears that are closed to discourse. I detest them and hold their propagators in derision.

Still part of the straw man argument. If you aren`t finnished with the conversation to which you drew this from go back and finnish it with who you were engaged with then you can come back and converse with me.

    * Both are pandering fools with nothing to say about life lived by intelligent prople in the 21st century. *

You are entitled to your opinion and entitled to frame it by whatever process you wish….. but don`t try to sell me on your intelligence. I`ll pick up on your intelligence (or lack thereof) as the discussion goes on. Mr. Thompson is most likely the most intelligent person in this campaign and with the exception of Rudy and maybe mc cain he has the most impressive resume`.

    * A vote for either one is a vote for the intellectual standards of the 12th century. *

If your manner of discourse is any indication of what you consider a logical standard I would take the 12th century attention to detail above your prattling any day.

    * We should all be worried about such people and their supporters. *

    Get yourself in order.
