“It is amazing that the Catholic bishops in Pakistan only discover the benefits of secularism when they are the persecuted minority. Perhaps the bishops should send a message to the pope that it is good not just in Pakistan for religion to be kept separate from the state and civil life. Perhaps the bishops should remind him that his own penchant for interference in politics also brings disadvantage to some people. And while he's condemning blasphemy law, perhaps he could mention to the Irish government that it needs to repeal its own blasphemy law, not a medieval relic, or even a remnant of British imperialism, but recently introduced without a murmur of dissent from the Vatican.”

Yes, I wonder why the Catholic Church expects anyone to take it’s requests for effectively secular states in the Islamic world seriously, when it rails against the “evils” of secularism in Europe and elsewhere. I can’t blame these Islamic countries for completely ignoring this fool they call the Pope.

FYI The Irish Blasphemy Act (January 2010)

“publishing or uttering matter that is grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters sacred by any religion, thereby intentionally causing outrage among a substantial number of adherents of that religion, with some defences permitted”

    And the penalty for Blasphemy:

“Their children shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.”

    ISIAH 13:15

Simon Sorry to correct you – It should read ” Their wives will be dashed to pieces before their eyes( Or optional burning at the stake ) All their worldly wealth to the Vatican AND THEIR CHILDREN WILL BE RAVISHED.”
