Depends on the context of your fear. If it’s fear for the people in the middle east, then it is rational. If it is fear for there being another terrorist attack in America, it is irrational.
There are over 30,000 commercial flights in the USA alone. That amounts to 2 million flights every year. It has been well over a year since the last terrorist attack attempt, and a year before that one. So, you’re pretty much left with a 1 in 2 million chance that your flight will have a terrorist attack happen. That’s just for your flight as a whole, not the odds of there actually being a terrorist in the whole spectrum of there being passengers. Just think, was that fondling, groping, and nude photo worth it?
Then, of course, there’s the fear of Islamic takeover, which is ALWAYS over the top irrational.

May I add more:
Terrorists gain advantage not through the act of terror but through the reaction to it.
Adopting Islamophobic attitudes or policies will only strengthen the position of extremists.
