I think a more accurate quote in this venue would be, “You cannot fight a battle using evidence with someone foolish enough to deny it.”

There’s a very famous apocryphal quote which goes something like
“never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience”

The quote couldn’t be truer. Not only shouldn’t you engage in such a battle, but it’s impossible to win in such a battle. You cannot argue with an anti-intellectual. Your reason means nothing to them.
