“Christian fundamentalism was politicized in the 1970s and 1980s in a pretty cynical way by architects of the new Right who were trying to put together a popular movement and a bait to give them electoral power.”

That is a natural phenomena of maintaining God’s ways. No fuss at all.

  2. Dan Says:

Maybe it’s a natural phenomenon, I’m not sure, but it’s hard to avoid the conclusion that it’s a very bad way to do politics, based on a delusional worldview. PLENTY to fuss about.

  3. solomon Says:

People who says delusional, is only citing a word, just a mere word that they themselves could’nt make out what it really symbolize.
There’s no “delusion” at all in the true religion. Its all facts & proofs thru’ reasoning that the atheists hide it and forced it to be something in solid visible form. Evidence should not always be in solid visible form. Evidence could also be in the form of reasoning.

EVEN MORE to fuss about, as these folks are hell-bent for leather to deny anyone else religious freedom. When I can make a buck without having to look at a lie in the name of religion, I’ll truly have mine, thank you. “In God We Trust” – what you mean WE, Cemo Sabe?

BTW, do you know why the Ranger and Tonto split? Because the Ranger found out that the actual translation of “Cemo Sabe” is “Sh** Head”.

  5. Johnny Eucharist Says:

Awesome. “The natural way of maintaining Gods ways” is to lie, cheat and manipulate. Bravo, Sol. Bravo!

  6. solomon Says:

    Johnny Eucharist,

I don’t have to mention which part of my statement have been twisted by you. Its all very clear.

  7. Dan Says:

There’s no “delusion” at all in the true religion.

You mean besides believing in imaginary friends?

  8. Dan Says:

    Also, Sol,
About that “True Religion” bit, Mark Twain had an astute thing to say about that:

Man is a Religious Animal. He is the only Religious Animal. He is the only animal that has the True Religion–several of them. He is the only animal that loves his neighbor as himself and cuts his throat if his theology isn’t straight. He has made a graveyard of the globe in trying his honest best to smooth his brother’s path to happiness and heaven….The higher animals have no religion. And we are told that they are going to be left out in the Hereafter. I wonder why? It seems questionable taste.

  9. Rambler Says:

If you’re part of a small, but wealthy group who wishes to wield considerable influence in any democratic society, you need a large power base. To be exact you need to be able to convince a large enough part of the population to vote for your interests instead of their own. In other words: you need schmucks, rubes, stooges, oblivious ignorant nincompoops who won’t even realize they’re being manipulated into voting against their own best interest.

Enter the religious right. Give them bibles in schools, vow to fight the gays and criminalize abortion and they’ll let you do pretty much whatever the hell you want.

The short version: the religious right are nothing but useful idiots.

  10. nonDelusionalReality Says:

People who cite ‘god’ are only saying a word, as it does no stand for anything, well maybe ignorance.

Time and time again it has been proven:

Someone on here proves it again and again.

  11. nonDelusionalReality Says:

“true religion” – that’s an oxymoron.

  12. nonDelusionalReality Says:

    which god,
    and which holy text,
and which interpretation of that holy text,
    is the true one?

18 main religions. (over 40,000 versions of Christianity alone) ALL claiming to be right and all the others wrong.

And you wonder why the smart people in the world laugh at religious beliefs.
