or Not.

Joan is right, we should be free to interpret it as we choose. Or, rather, we should be able to read it for the BS that it is.
August 21st, 2011 at 7:59
Should we really be free to arrive at an insulting conclusion about someone’s sacred beliefs?
August 21st, 2011 at 8:41
Agreed: as long as our interpretations do not affect the lives and wellbeing of others.
August 21st, 2011 at 12:13
If there is too many versions of interpretations refering to one’s choice, there will be chaos.

It’s already happened, solomon. If there were an almighty god, you’d think it would have spoken more clearly, I think.
August 21st, 2011 at 13:19
but really, is’nt this all just academic…..
if the bible is not the “one true book ? “

archaeopteryx,
What do you expect? God to spoon feed you. God is not your slave.
August 21st, 2011 at 17:18
No, Sol, we’d expect this god of yours to be evident. Not spoon feeding, just one convincing shred of evidence.
August 21st, 2011 at 17:39
solomon, according to some religions there is infinite punishment for finite crimes. I want better evidence before I will accept such beliefs. We get it in civilised human courts.
To return to the quotation: I don’t want my share of the bible, so it’s available for anyone who does.

Dan,
Just look at the tiny ant. What sort of creature could have design its tiny limbs and make it walk with ease? Think. That is just one tiny evidence.
August 21st, 2011 at 17:55
Oh the irony!solly telling us to think. (ants can walk ergo god) sheeesh!!!
August 21st, 2011 at 17:58

Actually I do value the bible as literature and in historical context. You can mine it for bon mots and wisdom and quotes like any other book.
August 21st, 2011 at 18:06
archaeopteryx,
For a finite crime or sins of being infidel, the infinite punishment will be the eternal termed in !!HELLl!!. You can get the evidence in the true ‘book’.
August 21st, 2011 at 18:45
There they go… when the convinced loose the argument of reason they always condemn you to hell. I got’s me-self a big bag of marshmallows stashed just waiting…
August 21st, 2011 at 18:49
John,
At that time, no amount of marshmalluws will do you no good.
August 21st, 2011 at 20:31
oh such nonsense !!!!
marshmallows liven up ANY gathering !!!!
why, ghost stories around the campfire wouldnt be
the same at all without marshmallows !!
and, speaking of ghost stories (and other fairy tales )
well, the bible’s FULL of them. great reading for
spooky nights.
note to Atheist MC…..you’d better be careful tossing around
a word like ” ergo “………..SOME people might just NOT
understand it !!!!

Bzzzttt. Wrong.
And heck, you’ve even admitted yourself in past comment threads that this is at best a metaphor — there’s no assembly plant for ants now, is there? No, that’s just silly. And besides, we can look inside an ants’ colony and see where the ants come from.

The Atheists, defeated in several occasions arrogantly refuse to admit defeat & weaknesses. Dare to label their winning opponents with such silly words like gobblydgook or gullible. Shame on them.
