Hmm… Almost makes religion sound like a virtue. Like a coping mechanism when life is nasty brutish and short. Maybe it does make a life of torment bearable by promising post-death rewards but the flip side of the acceptance coin is not doing what you can to improve your lot now. A kind of revolution-insurance for the upper castes who never seem to be under any obligation to believe the same stuff.
Religion converts ignorance, which can be cured, into unearned certainty, which is immune to cure.
Captain,
Well religion can be a coping mechanism. So can drugs and alcohol. Just because something is a coping mechanism doesn’t make it a positive force for society or individuals though.
Lady Blessington is quite right though about submission. Religion is the organized effort for members of society to submit their minds in resignation.
Oh, I see you’re continuing the discussion from yesterday’s comments. Okay. Here are my questions for you since you’re a more experienced biologist (I’m sure these will be EASY for you):
1. And why exactly would you expect there to be a clear-cut “first human?”
2. Given that human children are never identical to their parents, how do you know that Homo habilis and/or Homo erectus never gave birth to children that were more Homo sapien-like?
3. You favor Dirt as an origin of the “first human,” right? As you’re so knowledgeable, then I’m sure you’ll be able to point me in the right direction of evidence of a dirt-to-human transition.
4. Again, as you’re so knowledgeable on the subject, I’m sure you can explain how soil particles made the transition to not only forming complex molecules such as hemoglobin, but also cells, tissues and organs. Right?
5. Related to question 4, I’m sure you’ll be able to explain why earlier hominids such as Homo habilis – which had all of these complex tissues already – could not have possibly transferred them through descending generations, despite the very striking anatomical similarities between H. habilis and modern humans. Right?
Oh, and Solomon, I trust that since you’re interested in “Defeating” us atheists and since you know so much about biology, that you’ll make every effort to respond to my questions.
Translation: Religion converts despair as despair destroys a person, but the conversion from destruction is into resignation and resignation comes submission.
My take: I rather be destroyed than submit to a man.
In the beginning God created Homo Erectus in his own image, but then he changed up his mind and erased most remnants of Homo Erectus and replaced him with Homo Sapiens. You see God got confused and concerned about Geico pitchmen from the future and thought he shoudl scrap that idea but then…
Whilst one is bobbing ones head up and down the required 5 times a day while rope learning the pedophiles’ gibberish chants; does encountering the floor with the forehead on the downward bob or the swift whack to the back of the head or torso from the en-slavers wooden persuading stick on the upward bob, aid in the mastering these chant?
@solomon Come on man! Really “Would you like to sleep with a robust steel skin wife?”
That is the best you have? You ignore the fact that evolution is an ongoing process proven as fact beyond any doubt, accepted by all credible scientists, and that as it is an ongoing process all organisms are in the process of evolving all the time.
Were a creator to have designed it right from the get go all the organisms would be perfect from the get go. Science has shown us endless example after example of imperfection in every organism. Nothing is perfect, so nothing was designed.
NOTE: Don’t take the bait and counter-claim that evolution isn’t proven fact either. The only question is whether or not natural selection is the only process of evolution. Evolution is fact. Creationism/Intelligent Design is retarded, mindless, jibberish with no basis in reality and no evidence.
I’am not claiming I know everything on biology. It’s only you that is labeling I’am a biologist or so knowledgeable. I’am just commenting on the innacuracies or ambiguity on your part regarding that subject. But not to dissapoint you, to sum up all of your 5 questions, it can be simply put in this way.
Its all just God’s process to make anything possible. That is up to us to find out.
To say I don’t know any biology will be pure exaggeration and its not a handicap at all, but claims of a biologist which can be refuted by a layman would result in humiliation.

if you LET religion produce those effects in
your life, then you’re simply living out the
example of our quote from august 20th…….
and letting others do your thinking for you.
accepting religious doctrine and thinking
in a critical – analytical manner do not go together.
actually, doing either one will CANCEL OUT the
other.
remember the powerful observation made by SOCRTES…….

RE POST AT 22:40 yesterday…………
how would you possibly know ??
August 23rd, 2011 at 8:11
R J,
Its pure logic. How would the 1st human being born. From a mother whose blueprint have not even exists? Surely the 1st human was designed & build.
August 23rd, 2011 at 9:47
Re post at 8.11 – not very good design. I think an all-knowing creator could have done better with simpler and more robust ‘creations’.
Argument from incredulity again.

Hey Solomon,
Since you know biology and want to “defeat” us atheists, why aren’t you responding to my questions above:
http://atheistweb.org/qotd/1605#comment-25315
Or are you just unable to defeat us? 😉
August 24th, 2011 at 2:22

August 24th, 2011 at 10:21
So to sum up: you don’t know any biology, and you’re just making it up.
That’s what I thought.
August 24th, 2011 at 10:59
And here I thought you wanted to “defeat” me. Instead, you just dodged the questions.
August 24th, 2011 at 17:00
To say I don’t know any biology will be pure exaggeration and its not a handicap at all, but claims of a biologist which can be refuted by a layman would result in humiliation.
August 24th, 2011 at 18:41
Okay, then refute them, don’t run away.
August 24th, 2011 at 18:56
Solomon,
You had “answered” my questions by saying:
That’s not much of an “answer.” That’s ignorance.
Now do you have a real answer, or just ignorance?
