Even if evolution was true, it still can’t refute god. It’s process can still be termed as god’s mysterious ways. There can ever be no way to refute god.
I’ve said it before and you’ve been unable to respond: if it’s an all-powerful and benevolent deity you believe in, then it can be refuted in two words — Pediatric Oncology.
Or if you really want to choose evolution as the discussion point… then please, go on pretending that it’s impossible to start with a bit of dirt and end up with a human body. It’s insane, but go ahead.
re post at 3.01: in common with most theists, solomon has defined his god in such a way that its existence can never be refuted. This is the theists’ cunning plan. The downside, from their viewpoint, is that its existence can never be proved.
One of the most significant differences between good and bad theories is that bad theories can never be disproved. A good theory always looks for tests – consistent with external evidence – that will serve to disprove them.
And, solomon, we don’t need evolution to disprove the theists’ god. Epicurus and company did it centuries ago with logic.
I don’t know about Mother Goose, but there’s more evidence for Santa than for god.
Actually the quote is a bit inane. It would be fair to say interpreting the bible correctly as myth “I don’t believe in god for the same reason I don’t believe in mother goose”. But the two are not logically connected as in the quote: No Mother Goose; Therefore no God.
Dan: There is no point arguing evolution with Solly as he doesn’t understand what the evolution is. We can try and educate him I suppose as the public spirited citizens that we are, but don’t hold out too much hope.
Actually I don’t believe in god because I don’t believe in the Loch Ness Monster.
While I have a great deal of respect for Clarence Darrow, and archaeopteryx your Santa reference will always get a laugh from me, I tend to not believe in god for what seem to me more organic characters and creatures.
For instance, I also don’t believe in god because I don’t believe in Sasquatch also. Sure there is far more evidence for the existence of Sasquatch but that is the point really.
Sorry I don’t buy into the Abominable Snowman myth, the Lake Champlain “Champ” Monster, that whole crop circles thing is a bust with me, the Piltdown Man of England is widely understood to have been a hoax, the dead alien as Roswell, the Bermuda Triangle, the face on Mars, and a whole host of other kooky crackpot nonsense like god.
Bill Cosby’s (god is an imaginary playmate for adults) makes me laugh, in part because in all humor there is a little truth, but also because Mr. Cosby is a comedian and making people laugh is what they do.
So I want everyone to know that I’m not all business and no fun, the Mother Goose, Santa, Easter Bunny, Dracula, Ghosts, Demons, Witches and Warlocks, Werewolves, and other make believe characters you say you don’t believe in god because you don’t believe in, will get a laugh from me.
Let it not be said that Sinjin is all serious and no fun, for thou sayeth the silliest things, whence thou aren’t so serious, so sayeth the lord. Oops!
Actually, Solly doesn’t need to define his god in a way that its existence cannot be refuted. Science has a simple dictum which precludes proof that god doesn’t exist: Absence of evidence is NOT evidence of absence. Using the tools of science, and even those of logic, it is not possible to prove a negative.
The problem, of course, is that all his claims to evidence of presence are completely without foundation, since everything he cites can be explained without super-natural intervention. He completely fails to understand that science changes because of new evidence, and sees the unalterable nature of faith as a strength, rather than the complete downfall that it is.
Oh, well. Such is the nature of the competition between faith and evidence. Natural selection will have its slow, but inevitable, way just as Mr. Darwin so patiently pointed out, provided we don’t manage to kill the species with faith in the meantime.
solly says “You don’t have to believe in mother goose to believe in God”.
Oh yea you do, if you believe in any half baked, simple minded and childish, hair-brained nonsense you have really bought into it all whether you care to admit it or not.
You see you can’t check reality at the door, you can’t put reason on hold, logic isn’t something you can bring out when it suits you. No, solly you do believe in Mother Goose and she’s sitting up in the lonely corridors of your empty mind with god, the Loch Ness Monster, and all the rest of the idiot, meat-headed, jibberish that has been handed down from every greasy handed pervert since Pethe cave man.
You may remember a few days ago I posted a challenge to god. Well solly how do you explain his lack of action? Was I not rude enough? Did I not challenge god?
Why am I still here and god is nowhere? Please, god? That has to be some of the dumbest fecal material I have ever heard of.
Evolution and God are connected to each other. The concept God is proof of evolution. All anyone has to do is see an animal react to noise or movement in the woods and watch it assume something is there, something invisible to be wary of. Some unusual invisible force that must be respected and scared of, and how easily this assumption can be extrapolated into an all mighty invisible being at the cause of all things unknown by sentient beings. Belief in god is proof of evolution.
Sinjin,
I did respond to your post in mocking god but my post was not publish by the Admin.
I have put it this way:
Of course nothing will happen when you curse or mock the Christian god coz its not the true god.
Solomon,
If you’re right and your god is the “True” God, then why are you afraid that I might critique this deity? Are you afraid that I might be right?
It sounds to me like you have some doubts of your own about your god.

Archaeopteryx,
It seems to me instead that he’s just to cowardly to state openly what god he worships.

i REALLY liked the phrase ” unalterable nature of faith. ”
you’re right. for most of the believers, it IS an
unalterable position………..really rock-solid.
i dont understand how they can cling to it……
but i know it’s a fact that they do. did you
notice that old moth-eaten “mysterious ways ”
got hauled out today?? it doesnt Mean dick,
but i’ve always liked the way that phrase sounds.

I know why you keep on nagging for the identity of the true god. You have evil plans to mock him. Sorry….you have to wait for a while or so…..
