“Jesus unambiguously preached mercy and forgiveness. These are supposed to be cardinal virtues of the Christian faith. And yet Evangelicals are the most supportive of the death penalty, draconian sentencing, punitive punishment over rehabilitation, and the governmental use of torture.”

well, so what. in fact, “so what” to both statements.

the supposed teachings of jesus were ideals…….to be

    believ4ed in, and practiced UNCONDITIONALLY.

to expect creatures of “free will” to act at ALL in

    an unconditional manner is self-contradictory.

    wont happen.

and…..there is NEVER going to be a balance of laws,

and morals and ethics, that humans will

universally agree is just, fair , and correct.

    again, wont happen.

i dont give a damn what the religionistas think is

right or wrong because their bedrock ( FAITH ) is

a flawed premise, ranging in expression from

    harmless to delusional.

i give them, and statements like the above quote,

    a very wide berth.

Don’t confuse or misuse the word freewill. It does’nt mean you can do whatever you wish following your lusts. Freewill in the sense doing good & justs things.

  3. archaeopteryx Says:

solomon – please define your understanding of the words “good” and “just”.

  4. Rambler Says:

His understanding of “good” and “just” is doing whatever god tells him to. If he were to believe the voice of god was telling him to murder his own mother, he would believe this to be a just and moral act. Just like Abraham was willing to kill his very own son. Whatever god says is good, even if it entails killing every man, woman, child and beast in a city, it is good.

And the theists say we’re the moral relativists.

Abortion is as I have said before a merciful act, an act Jesus would approve of. To oppose abortion is to oppose Jesus and a blasphemy.

Solomon you blasphemer! Dirty evil Solomon.

You speak out about lust but you hide you own. You are dirty Solomon, you can’t hide your perversions. The truth always reveals itself.

You must make a penance for your ugly perversions, you must read the bible, alone in a quiet place, and no masturbating. you must not touch your loins and dream of children Solomon whilst reading the holy book.

    Children are not food Solomon!

R j you must have been a sailor? The only people I know to speak of giving “wide berth” I met as a sailor in the Navy. I think the saying was “give fools wide berth”.

Argh! I’m hearing Sarah Palin in the background. One of the Sunday talk shows is blaring in the kitchen. Another difficult day to be a Republican…

  9. solomon Says:

    Rambler,

God have known all along that the slaughtering of Abraham’s son will never took place. Its just a tough test to see how far a faithful subject can go. Like an endurance test. Case closed.
