Right – Carpe Diem – better to love life than the alternative, because one day we’ll all just be fertilizing daffodils.

Frankly, I’m trying to find a way to move to a certain town in Oregon, where the best place in town is a joint call Cafe Diem. Just a bit dangerous to live around, but the conversations? Good stuff. Unfortunately, they don’t support cosmology as a field of research, DOD can’t see a way to make it pay off.
Anyhow – when my mother was put into hospice care, she gathered her five boys, their wives, the 14 grandkids and 8 greats around her over the 5 months that remained. I don’t think there was a day that went by that she didn’t have at least 3 or 4 of the crew stopping by, just to spend some time with her, and I can’t remember a time in her life when I heard her laugh so much. My last conversation with her, just 4 hours before she died (I’m sure she knew it was that close, I didn’t), is an experience I cherish – the last sound she and I heard of each other was laughter. Almost 15 years ago, and memory of the sound she made when her upper plate slipped that day still brings a smile. With all her flaws, and there were too many to count, the universe did me both a favor and an honor when I was allowed to share the first 40 years of my life with her.

Something just came up on the other QOTD that I keep on my iGoogle home page.
Steven Wright: Black holes are where God divided by zero.
Pretty good cosmology, for a comedian.
