The only way to really close a heart is to leave the real world behind and go off seeking that which does not exist.
In the real world you don’t kill in the name of god. In the real world you don’t stone little girls to death because they were raped. In the real world you don’t have Jihad (a practice of the vile).
In fantasy land, the place where god, jesus, and that moron mohammed live you suspend caring for others in favor of a supreme care for one of these fictional characters.
There can be no greater evil than suspending reason for faith. They are liars, spreading evil. Hold on to the natural and dismiss the supernatural. It is the only path to love.
Religion is the greatest threat period. Nothing is more destructive and ugly as religion. Nothing has the potential for evil like religion. Supporters of religion are either blindly acceptant of tradition or evil.
Sorry, maybe I should’ve read the quote to get context before commenting. Mistake on my part.
In the context of the quote then, I’d have to agree at least partly with Solomon (gasp). The closed hearts of many religious people (but admittedly not all such people) is a curse on mankind.
I’d have to give first place to the deadly combination of Religion, Nationalism, and the myth of American Exceptional-ism. Sorry to all the rest of the US citizens out there, but you put those three together, and you get all sorts of mischief.

I think Galileo would disagree. They’re still trying to pull that kind of B.S. Think Catholic’s medieval attitude about birth control

Unbridled nationalism would run religion a close second, I reckon.

Solomon,
Why am I not surprised that you’re happy to laud irrationalism and self-delusion?
