Solomon,
So you agree that religion is a con, but think if we just trust it a bit more then it’ll come clean in the end? That sounds awfully like what the fool would say to the con man whom he hasn’t yet lost trust in.
As an atheist my first reaction is to help the poor fool come to his senses, to enlighten him. I think what repulses me so much is particularly the clergy person that would first seek to exploit the fools ignorance. I just don’t have it in me to hurt people. The never ending news cycle reports on this but somehow few see the story. Religion is evil. You can’t argue that it is or isn’t. All that hurts people, all that takes advantage of people is religion. We need to be better than that, we need to be good to each other, we need to be better to the poor fool that gets swallowed up by religion.
I begin to believe that there are fewer fools and more rascals in some religions http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-15840339
Such a strange and pandering the BBC always approaches this subject from. As ever I’m shocked by the wily cynicism of the believers

I kind of agree…but lets give him more time to search for truth.

Voltaire must be one of those evil new atheists we keep hearing about.
