“There is no need for us to gather every day, or every seven days, or on any high and auspicious day, to proclaim our rectitude or to grovel and wallow in our unworthiness. We atheists do not require any priests, or any hierarchy above them, to police our doctrine.”

Christopher Hitchens1949 – 2011

efforts of good folks like you….the work, and

    the message will carry on.

I was very sad when I heard of Hitchen’s death, but his words will inspire future generations. In particular, I hope they will help those who grow up in religious communities and, coming to doubt through the use of reason, wonder if they are alone.

Thank you R j! I realize I have a zeal that borders on enthusiasm and that in any other forum might be annoying. It is why I love our group here. It is a home.

What a great quote! Thank you admin! No we don’t need any of these things to police our doctrine. We only need each other and to share our thoughts. Which is all anyone should need in the great exchange of thoughts and ideas.

More than anything it is people that matter. Gods are just nonsense.

I wish I could ask Hitch one question concerning this quote: “What doctrine?” I’m sure he’d chuckle as I did when I thought of it.
