“I didn't understand this idea of a God who says, 'You have to acknowledge me. You have to say that I'm the best, and then I'll give you eternal happiness. If you won't, then you don't get it!' It seemed to be about ego. I can't see God operating from ego, so it made no sense to me.”

doG if he existed would be a selfish bully, a selfish egoist, a selfish tyrant—like the other fictional deities, below, invented by the mind of man:

“The Jehovah of the Jews is a suspicious tyrant, who breathes nothing but blood, murder, and carnage, and who demands that they should nourish him with the vapours of animals. The Jupiter of the Pagans is a lascivious monster. The Moloch of the Phoenicians is a cannibal. The pure mind of the Christians resolved, in order to appease his fury, to crucify his own son. The savage god of the Mexicans cannot be satisfied without thousands of mortals which are immolated to his sanguinary appetite.” Paul Henri Thiry, Baron d’Holbach, quoted from S. Acharya, Truth Be Known

Who would have thought that I’d agree with Brad Pitt about anything?

A pretty face and somewhat of a brain. Brad just went up a notch in my book.

I’ve never quite understood how people that purport to believe in a personal god can ascribe to that being all of our human imperfections. It’s like they have a severe lack of imagination where god is concerned and can therefore see nothing more than a more powerful version of a human being. What an insult this is! That the devine creator of the universe, as impossibly large as that is, with it’s inconceivable number of worlds, must somehow be subject to hatred and jealosy and love and scorn and pettiness is the height of arrogance and is demeaning to that which they worship. Unbelievably, they cannot see this.

I would have thought that the first time it was realized that Andromeda was a galaxy and that we’re in a similar one, 100,000 light years across and that the universe is littered with them, it would have been enough to dispense with this personal god nonsense. Nope.

Server went down for a while – unfortunately, at the time the daily cron job would normally submit a new quote 🙁
