“If you allow ancient texts, and the mores of the first and sixth centuries, a huge amount of respect in certain areas of society, it's quite hard to say that they can suddenly be disregarded in another.”

more NONSENSE !!!!!
how bout if you allow THIS………..
the ancient texts are nothing but fantasies……
and who gives a damn aboue the cultural mores
in the 1st and 6th centuries.
and , if one area in todays’ society happens
to revere and respect all that crap….well, that’s
just great………….but this stuff can be EASILY
disregarded by all other areas in modern
society.

Personally I think it is the fantasies which are nonsense.
But I do agree that if you allow one part of society to be influenced by these fantasies, then it becomes easier for other parts to be affected by this spead.
For example, if the culture of a country feels that it is based on then it becomes easier for the clergy to pressure lawmakers into basing laws on that faith.
