“It's not God I worry about. It's the self-important, pompous, power-seeking old fossils who claim to speak for him.”

I don’t mind spirituality, or even the thought of a more powerful or intelligent being than I, but organized religion – I hate.

Heretic, am I prying or indisrete if I ask why?

Saw a bunch of the “self-important, pompous, power-seeking old fossils” on Morning Joe this morning discussing the meaning of Good Friday, and wanted to shout at them, “Why should I listen to your mythology any more seriously than that of Odin, Zeus, Jove or Osiris? Just because people currently believe it doesn’t make it any more real than the earlier versions, idiots!”

But being a Bishop sure does grant a bunch of power over the rest of the world, with damn little work to show for it.

Jeff, I know the feeling. It’s irrational but it really does make me indescribably angry when otherwise intelligent people talk about mythology as fact.

I was expecting a good quote on the historicity of Easter today, maybe we’ll get a good one on Sunday.
