Pick and choose the morals that suit the church best. If you were trying to write a convincing moral narrative about God and what he expects of people, wouldn’t you make it internally consistent?

Nor in a Muslim nation, for that matter. But there, they kill you for it.

The range of human emotion is not something that I’d want shielded from. I need to be viewed as a filthy stinking atheist, it gives me great comfort. Nothing I think is a greater validation of the choices and beliefs I have made and hold than the disdain of the religion.
Frankly I love the statement “what would Jesus do”. I have to believe whatever Jesus might have thought about my lack of faith he’d approve of my rejection of modern religiosity. The frauds and charlatans that head modern faith are the very same pro Roman bourgeoisie that looked down their ugly noses upon the poor and downtrodden.
On this completely fraudulent holiday I’d like to send out to my A friends the very best wish and hopes for your well being. As for you religious nut bags you can have my less than very best, perhaps only my best wishes for the same.

i dont see you as filthy and stinking at all, weve
been communicating on this site for along time ,
and i feel like i know you at least a little bit
and what i know is that youre an intelligent ,
concerned and caring guy. youre a family man
and breadwinner. and, youre strong with your
beliefs……and responsible when displaying
them. you get a little worked up now and then ,
but who doesnt ?? you give me food for thought…….
and i could not ask for a finer gift. you just keep the
thoughts coming . i think a lot of you…and i am
the “mr. universe” of cynics !!! RJ

Sinjin, I think you’re pretty close on what would Jesus think. He’d probably be more moved to tears than to scorn, but he would definitely not be pleased.
And to my friends who view the holiday as fraudulent, I also hope you had a happy!

Xhim,
Likewise – I hope you had a happy time with your family on the Easter holiday. That was always the point of Easter to me anyway – a welcome excuse to spend quality time with the important people in my life.
