    Fear of death, fear of other (different) people, sure. Also greed and will to power, no? It may very well have its genesis in fear but it was quickly found to be immensely useful for a variety of goals.

    Oh no it isn’t a byproduct, it is the primary product. Nothing motivates anyone like fear.

    The creators and perpetuators of religion have long known that the masses of the uninformed are led with the least resistance through the employment of fear tactics.

    It is the same in politics where nationalism equates to religion. If you aren’t one of us then you are one of them. You know them dirty no good types. We are right, we are good, they and their kind are wrong, are evil, are bad.
