“A 1994/95 survey of nearly 10,000 abortion patients showed 18% of women having abortions are born-again or Evangelical Christians. Many of these women are likely anti-choice. The survey also showed that Catholic women have an abortion rate 29% higher than Protestant women. A Planned Parenthood handbook on abortion notes that nearly half of all abortions are for women who describe themselves as born-again Christian, Evangelical Christian, or Catholic.”

i’m prertty hazy here. sinjin or kittie could you clarify ??

  2. Kittie Aldakkour Says:

Interesting, I would have thought it would be a higher percentage being this is such a religious country. It would seem that someone is not self reporting as religious when having their little “procedure”.

r j – there are some pious hippocrits out there. I spoke with two friends today about this, one has three boys, the other two daughters.. And when I said that there was no way I would force my daughter to give birth to a child conceived by rape – both of them kind of pursed their lips in this condescending way that only christians can do. The mother of boys stated that she thought many women just used abortion as a convenient method of birth control… Catholic policy on birth control would be the reason Catholics seek abortionists at a much higher rate than Protestants… But again, I think those numbers are way too low. Do Atheist women make up 5% of all women but fill in the remaining half of all abortions? no of course not… A clear case of Biblical ignorance and paternalistic religions still controlling women – keeping them barefoot and pregnant.

I think there is a shame factor going on here. With strong religious families, one doesn’t want to get caught with their pants down, so to speak. Mummy and Daddy wouldn’t be happy to find out that their little angel has been diddling the local boy down at the five and dime. Just wouldn’t be seemly. They just want to keep the entire indiscretion secret.

I want to interview Paul Ryan and ask the following question:

“Sir, you have introduced or cosponsored bills in the House which would make all abortion illegal, even in cases of rape, incest, or for the life of the mother. What would you say personally to a woman in a hospital emergency room who has just had a rape kit administered to her, a woman with a broken nose and cuts and scrapes all over her body, to explain to her that in the event the act which put her there results in pregnancy, she must bear the attackers child because of you?”

I want to hear that question just one time!!!!

  5. The Heretic Says:

I would guess he would say – Punish the attacker, not the child. Understand, that I don’t agree with a law that would prohibit abortion, but I do understand his argument. So do you, even though you may not agree with it. I shall assume that your counter argument would be – hasn’t she suffered enough? The answer is – Yes. But how far should you go to make sure she suffers no more, assuming that is possible?

I find it alarming that some people will not condemn a criminal, who has done horrific things, to death, but will condemn a baby to death without a second thought. I find it even more alarming that those persons do not see the parallel of the two. A child is innocent of all crimes. Adoption is a possibility. And abortions are used far too frequently in this era of abject irresponsibility. If they were more rare, your objection would hold more weight than it does.

    JEFF AT 1516…………………

Your question is a good one , and deserves an answer.

    HERETIC at 2229…………………..

i dont agree with your premise. ” punish the attacker ” is all well and

good………..as a matter of fact i think rapists should be kilied.

but punish the attacker and not THE CHILD doesnt work.

you’re not dealing with a child. if the rapist impregnates his victim,

what he has done is set in motion a PROCESS for forming an infant…..

and that growing life is generally divided into 2 segments…….

    embryonic…..then fetus. it’s not a baby human. it’s not a functioning

human until it has emerged from its internal liquid “growth” environment,

is separated from the host mom, and is able to survive in the

air……drawing oxygen with the lungs, and sustaining its vital

functions. THEN you have a fully human infant……….and yes,

it DOES come into the world as innocent.

what the rapist has done (( apparently inadvertently )) is

put the gestation process in motion…..under horrendous and

violent circumstances AND with NO right to cause this to happen.

a woman has EVERY right to halt this process……and can have as many

reasons to do this as there are stars.

jeff is right. this consequence was forced upon her, and she has

NO obligation to carry it out to a natural conclusion.

I guess if you turn an argument into simple biology, then you have no need for morals and ethics. How sad.

  8. Kittie Aldakkour Says:

I have endured three pregnancies with two live births and one horrible spontaneous abortion at nine weeks gestation, which ended in the E.R. at 12 weeks with lots of blood… I do feel qualifed, yes even more qualified that Paul Ryan and The Heretic on this subject. I agree totally with R.J.’s position. My loss was a child to me mentally, but biologically, I know that the fetus was never in a position of having a thought. Carrying a child to term and giving birth is a destructive process. Your body will never ever be the same. It is a horrible price to extort from a woman unwillingly. It is a process that can be safely halted and until you can come up with a way to “punish” the male involved in an equally dibilitating and lifelong manner – be grateful this will never happen to you and be supportive of a woman’s right to choose. Look at the stats on fertilized eggs that never make it to a live birth and justify it that way.. God takes most of what he gives right back before the first trimester – Maybe god should be more careful about who he allows to become pregnant.

  9. Jeff Says:

My only reply if that is Mr. Ryan’s answer is that it punishes everybody BUT the attacker. The Mother, the Child, and the rest of society. The Mother through the horror of carrying the child of her rapist to term with all the consequences Kittie has detailed. The Child, which will either be born unwanted to an unwilling mother, or given up to the tender mercies of our child welfare system. As to society at large – see Freakonmoics for how society will be punished.

  10. Jeff Says:

Also, if that is Mr. Ryan’s answer, then he is a heartless SOB who should be considered for euthanasia. I asked what he would PERSONALLY SAY to that woman in the ER just after her rape kit had been administered. I’d love to see what she did to him, and would defend any action of hers up to and including attempted murder as justifiable under the fighting words exception. It puts him into the same category as Dick Cheney – whose doctors had to expand his chest to make room for the heart transplant.
