“But people… don't even know what atheism is. It's not a negation of anything. You don't have to negate what no one can prove exists. No, atheism is a very positive affirmation of man's ability to think for himself, to do for himself, to find answers to his own problems.”

Well said; and it is for this very reason that I signify myself as a non-theist, one who is not a follower of any faith—because all faiths are fakes.
I recommend that everyone who pursues the atheist road of rationality should do likewise.

Madalyn O’Hair seems to be a hate figure in the USA. Does anyone know what this was or was it just the usual atheist-a-phobia?

From a quick wiki – “She is best known for the lawsuit Murray v. Curlett which led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling and ended the practice of daily prayer in American public schools. O’Hair later founded American Atheists[1] and became so controversial that, in 1964, Life magazine referred to her as “the most hated woman in America.”[2]”
I don’t doubt she was hated! If atheists have saints, she qualifies for me. Bit of a nut I must admit, if the rest of the article is accurate.

That would explain it 🙂
