This quote is just another way of saying that thinking critically is arguably worse than being ignorant. “Ignorance is [more] bliss[ful than awareness],” I guess.
It took me 60 years to overcome the childhood brainwashing, and it is very difficult to get out of the old patterns of thinking. I can’t talk about it with my parents or sibs. When I tried, my sister actually put her fingers in her ears and said, “La la la, I can’t hear you.” Society is geared to people of faith. Atheists don’t meet to reinforce their (non-) beliefs. This website is very helpful in that regard, so thanks.
Richard Dawkins alleged that the religious brainwashing of children is a far worse evil than clerical pedophilia.
Yes RJ and Margaret – one supports the other so well. I also never had any faith. Natural born skeptic…
Just finished an argument with my southern baptist back woods king james bible thumping brother-in law. He claims that god is punishing america for spitting in his face by allowing homosexuals to marry (and live) and abortion…
I gave it to him double barrel… of course it ended with him going to pray for me… and proclaiming how he was only human and not perfect like jesus/god.
This is where I come to let of steam from dealing with the idiocy of religious belief on a daily basis in the south. The people are very interesting here.

I’ve never had faith, so I wouldn’t know. Seems a simple logic though to presume a sense of loss for losing faith
When you think of losing faith in god what you have really lost is nothing. One could argue that a person gains perspective in rejecting nonsense.

Oh, sorry I didn’t explain how god was punishing america… by allowing Obama to be president again…
I said to him that maybe god is telling you he supports gay marriage and choice…
