12th November 2012

“As late as 1885, when a smallpox epidemic broke out in Montreal, the Protestant community was largely spared because it was vaccinated. But the Catholic population was decimated, because the priests insisted that vaccination was sinful. Abbé Filiatrault declared that 'If we are afflicted with smallpox, it is because we had a carnival last winter, feasting the flesh, which has offended the Lord… it is to punish our pride that God has sent us smallpox.'”

“God is giving America the president it deserves for spitting in his face on issues like abortion and gay marriage and for removing prayer from school.”

Quoted from my dimwitted preacher brother in law…

    kittie……………..

what’s it like, living with an insane in-law ?

  3. Dan Says:

    Kittie,
It sounds as though your brother in law believes that God is quite a malicious guy!

  4. Sinjin Smythe Says:

“God’s plan” like autopilot, doesn’t pull up when the mountain peak gets in the way.

The idea that God giving us anything, deserved or not, can never be more than a cheap excuse to continue some wrong headed thinking.

The football player thanking god for letting him score makes the same sense the parent does when the surgeon saves their child and they credit God.

Never giving credit where it is due or reassigning it to where it does not is the ugliest form of arrogance.

You aren’t an egomaniac for respecting yourself and respecting the talents of others doesn’t give them claim to your life.

I see a selfishness in faith, hidden in an inverse logic that limits the space for weak minded and ignorant to interact with others on a basis of equals. It is hierarchy supplanted in the mind.

    Kittie – simply: Wow.

  6. Kittie Says:

Sinjin – I like that last bit the best. Think I may use it some time in the near future – it is what I see too.

R J – Luckily for me I only have to deal with him on rare occasions as he lives in deep dark Arkansas and “the lord” doesn’t provide for him to travel much. Also the lord didn’t allow him to procreate with his wife who is just as goofy… thank the lord right! He facebooked that little gem I posted at the top.. and nobody replied but me…. he has been to the seminary so he knows it all. He said that I couldn’t speak to him of the lord being that I hadn’t accepted him as my saviour – I couldn’t know anything about him…
I guess that is what they teach them to say in the backwoods baptist seminary these days..

  7. RJ Says:

    kittie…….

tell that looney that you know just as much about the lord as HE does

    …..which is exactly NOTHING.

then ask him what he thinks ”faith” is .

then ask him what he thinks ”belief” is.
