One problem being, a sense of understanding can be contrived in various ways. Ways that popular religions have developed a knack for.
Teach anyone to attribute all good experiences, their existence, Earth and the universe in general to any one thing with absolute certainty. And from that, a contrived sense of understanding can be established regarding many topics without any inquiry. Creationists regarding life is a prime example.
Now that Solstice is upon us, and I’m reflecting back upon the year that we are leaving behind, I wanted to share something with my AQOTD friends: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCNvZqpa-7Q
Thank you all for being there and for being just who you are.
I don’t have an on-line reference to it, but I highly recommend the song “The Rebel Jesus” by the Chieftains and Jackson Browne from the Chieftains album “The Bells of Dublin” (their Christmas offering). Listen closely to the lyrics, and you’ll see why it’s one of my favorite Xmas offerings.
It ends, “I wish you pleasure and I wish you cheer, from a Heathen and a Pagan, on the side of the Rebel Jesus”.
Have a good holiday everyone, however you celebrate or don’t.
