Actually, it’s worse. Religions created victimless ‘crimes’ and called them sins. Fear of trandgressing these induces suffering in believers. Then religion pretends to alleviate that suffering as described in the quotation.

And then they literally punish (jail, torture, execute) people for “blasphemy” when they point out that the religion is obviously blatantly false..

I totally disagree with the writer and others who humbly agreee with Mr. or Mrs. Anon. The characteristic of “poor” is a little dergotory although belief in a supernatural power is I agree deragotoryregarding the capacity of the mind. However, my concern is that by definition(!!!) belief in a
God is not provable. It is an act of faith, an irrationsl occurance. This indeed be why such an action has been rejected by myself. I would not however reject such activities as poor and uneducationable. Alas, may all parties have a decent new year!

WJP, how does ‘The characteristic of “poor” is a little dergotory although belief in a supernatural power is I agree deragotory regarding the capacity of the mind.’ alter the fact that the poor(especially in impoverished countries) and uneducated(to some extent) tend to lean towards belief in a supernatural power/superstition.
I honestly can’t see anything in your post where you have given a reasonable explanation for your disagreement.

For Ryedo: A reasonable explanation for disagreement should be encouraged. This is to encourage a quest for truth, a rational endeavor. May Atheists thrive in the new year!
