They were welcomed by NIXON, REAGAN, et al. because it was the only way to win. Roger Ailes called it “the Southern Strategy”. Hijacked? More like handed the keys and pointed directly at the cliff. AFTER, I might add, they were rejected by the Democrats.
I used the word hijack from the perspective of progressive Republicans like Dwight Eisenhower, Theodore Roosevelt, Hiram Johnson, Robert La Follette, et cetera. These Republicans did not welcome the “Southern Strategy”.
Before I’d call them Democrats or Republicans I’d call them what they are Confederates. They promised to get back at Lincoln and by hijacking his political party they have their revenge.
It has been a long strange trip from Jefferson’s Democrats to Lincoln’s Republicans the question that remains is will they ever be stopped?
I think the answer to this question lies within the end of religion/superstition as these knucklehaeds derive their insane hatred and gotry from Deuteronomy.
Our (atheist) continued dialogue and friendly political debate and widespread biblical awareness are the greatest threats they face.
