  1. Critic Says:

I would modify this quote thusly:

I don’t believe God is a scientifically illiterate, sadistic single parent who writes primitive, amoral children’s books.

I think the added specificity enhances Mr. Maher’s original thought.

Bill Maher: ““I don’t believe God is a single parent who writes books.”

Well, it’s one way of putting it—rather crudely put perhaps, nonetheless true at that.

By contrast, it is amazing how many humans write books about gods including gods like the Jewish-Christian god.

  3. Critic Says:

Writing a book about god would be very easy – since there are no facts about god, one can simply opine randomly for 300 pages and then sit back and watch the godbots flock to the bookstores. No doubt a very lucrative trade.

Indeed – my school guidance councilor did me an injustice by not suggesting Professional Myth Promoter as a career option.

  5. Critic Says:

Chris, it is likely that your guidance councilor’s training included “Professional Myth Promoter” under the general heading of, “Habitual Liar in Print,” therefore, he/she felt it would be a morally ambiguous career option. Of course, morally ambiguous and highly profitable are not mutually exclusive.
