    Religion doesn’t give one either tolerance or compassion; if anything, it takes them away.

    Religion did give you those things. Compassion and tolerance are religious virtues, even if those who claim religion screw it up. You just borrowed them. As a former atheist, I remember my own attitude. I wanted compassion and tolerance, but I wasn’t interested in having to give it to others.

    I’ve never heard of a religion claim to have invented those two virtues. Ever.
