“In my lifetime I've witnessed dramatic declines in social and institutional biases against women, racial minorities, and gay people. But while many biases have changed in the last half century, one remains the same: the bias against atheists.”

The bias may well continue for a while. Atheists’ goals are not to gain acceptance or toleration like the other biases listed. We want that, true, but in many cases we also wish to increase our numbers. No other bias rallies to increase membership. That is a very threatening stance toward the status quo, therefore it will take us much longer to be mainstream. And, there will backlashes along the way.

It’s a good thing that you cannot tell who is an atheist by the way he/she looks.

Heretic, I personally don’t care how many atheists there are and don’t care what a person believes. I only care that those which remain religious respect my beliefs as I do theirs, and not force me to adhere to theirs.
