    For some. But maybe it would be more correct for most to say that it is an effort to assume certain things and never give a thought to the possibility that maybe, just maybe, they aren’t true. That’s not denial, it’s unawareness.

    Dan, I’d have to say that a large majority of people really aren’t self aware enough to have those doubts, and therefore agree with you. The problem is that I’m not sure what to call that intermediate step, where human DNA is present, but human consciousness isn’t. The longer I live, the more I’m convinced that consciousness doesn’t arise from the level of brain organization, but from some other factor. Julian Jaynes thought that it was written language that gave it rise. He also attributed the rise of the gods to a brain organization which was pre-conscious.
