“Have no doubt that the Catholic Church has dropped all pretence of being a religious organization. Cathedrals are nothing but a gathering place for constituents to organize lobbying campaigns, support favoured candidates and influence state and federal legislation. The Catholic Church is now officially the third major political party in the United States.”

Our culture has aged, our churches are big and empty and the church bureaucracy rises up. Our rituals and our cassocks are pompous. –Carlo Maria Martini, Cardinal Archbishop of Milan

It is nothing more than the natural progression of the Church in western civilization – the older the civilization the less powerful the Church. We even see it in the immediate offshoots of the Reformation – Lutherans and Episcopalians. The real vitality of Christianity is in the Pentecostals, and there mostly in Africa and South America. Without the drive of the charismatic, the Christian church is a dying breed.
