I encountered the christian mythologies while I was young.
I suppose we are all young when we do so, except that most children do not see them for the myths that they are; and do not see religion for the fraud that it is, because adults are telling them otherwise.
Having dispensed with the Santa Klaus myth when I was six, I was at once feeling that many of the biblical stories were myths too, and within a few years was convinced of it—the bible being a hotch-potch of impossibilities, of violence, hate and fear, mixed in with some good advice and much bad advice. Generally, the bible is very bad reading for children and susceptible credulous adults.
Unfortunately, most people who claim to “find religion” or god are not that perceptive. I do not know of a place where it is possible not to find religion. Believers are pushing their nonsense into our faces from every direction, demanding privileged access to our democratic process, trying to take over our secular institutions and insulting us with their high handed piety.
Seriously, I did NOT say this. I merely had it on my FB profile and a friend added it to a group and thanked me. Just wanted to clarify to anyone reading that that I am not anti-theist but merely a apatheistic.
