“Religion belonged to the infancy of the human race; it had been a necessary stage in the transition from childhood to maturity. It had promoted ethical values which were essential to society. Now that humanity had come of age, however, it should be left behind.”

True enough that it should be left behind – I don’t see a lot of evidence that it is being left behind. I just took a two week road trip through the hinterlands of the western US and the social importance of religion is as strong as ever in this area. I fear it will be a long time before, “transition from childhood to maturity,” is completed in the rural US.

As an aside, the most interesting religious association I came across was the, “Yahweh’s 666 Warning Assembly.” Of course they have a web page……..

    @ Critic,

Social evolution will take care of it, just look at Europe’s estimated religious-to-atheistic numbers. It is somewhere near 37% Atheist.

The US is going to be a sloth in this change though.

    Also, that sign is awesome.
