I’m with you, Seldon, on the first part but not entirely on the second. While I have no doubt that the effect of religion is enslavement I think that this is intentional in a minority of cases. The religious meme, as articulated by Dawkins, behaves like a virus, albeit one of mind. And an adherent that spreads it has no more intent in the matter than one who spreads the flu. The meme was (sorry, can’t resist) intelligently designed to spread and those that catch it when they are young may never develop immunity. It would seem that at the same time extremely virulent strains are appearing in the middle east, less virulent ones are appearing in Europe. My personal belief and hope is that Islam will burn itself out in a manner very like ebola – so virulent it kills all the hosts. Not that I literally want them all to die, mind you – I am an Atheist, not a Christian, after all!

In Latin “Mundus vult decipi”
which means “The world wants to be deceived”
—in other words ‘There’s a sucker born every minute’
