“You can't be a rational person six days of the week and put on a suit and make rational decisions and go to work and, on one day of the week, go to a building and think you're drinking the blood of a 2,000-year-old space god. That doesn't make you a person of faith. That makes you a schizophrenic.”

I observed a ritual as part of a death cult that proceeded in a stone building encircled by a zone of buried believers. Solemn worshippers—seemingly unexceptional men and women of all kinds and classes—prostrated themselves before scenes of human torture and made believe they were drinking human blood and eating human flesh while hapless children watched in troubled silence.

Your use of the term “schizophrenia” in this context is wrong. It is offensive and demonstrates a lack of understanding of this serious disorder which affects one per cent of the population. The author clearly has little knowledge of this debilitating condition. It has many and varied symptoms but ‘two identities’ is not one of them. You do sufferers a great disservice by misrepresenting their symptoms.
A good place to find more information is http://www.schizophrenia.com/index.php

Regarding my last comment, the phrase “Your comment” refers to the original Bill Maher reference and not Dr. Meaden’s reply which, as usual is pertinent and wholly agreeable.

It also amazes me that the religious can so easily digest the fairy tales of Adam and Eve, Noah’s Ark and Jonah in the belly of a big fish, but yet find the absolute physical proof of evolution so very hard to swallow.

This quote stinks.
TM is certainly in holiday swing.
BvK have you thought of suggesting quotes to this forum?
