“In their struggle for the ethical good, teachers of religion must have the stature to give up the doctrine of a personal God, that is, give up that source of fear and hope which in the past placed such vast power in the hands of priests.”

Albert Einstein1879 – 1955

I can live easily with the deist view. In Jefferson’s words it neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg. Einstein correctly identifies the priestly caste as the source of what evil is done in the name of a personal god. Without a personal god there’s no Bible, Koran, Torah and all that’s left is to do good for the common good and to do evil and earn condemnation of the group.

It’s all relative though innit. Just thought I would say it first.

Over a 30 year career in education (UK) I cannot recollect a school where the very important topics of ethics and morals were not placed solely in the hands of theists. There is an urgent need to get Humanist teachers covering these important subject areas. The British Humanist Association has some excellent educational material which should be used in every school.

Luckily none of the priest caste are among my relatives.
