But surely the percentage is woefully low. Indeed, to be a liberal adherent of a religion is to interpret it away from the barbarism of its origins. Islam is hard to to this with containing as it does such uninterpretable pronouncements.

Sura (9:5) “But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for them…”

So, after Ramadan, kill non-believers until you’ve achieved their submission. How is Islam to coexist with other religions or even the idea of democracy and modern institutions when it cannot even coexist with itself?

Easy Chris, the leaders are finally forced to rewrite their books and catechisms to reinterpret their books and early leaders so that can say that they “never endorsed” any such thing, and that that was “misinterpereted.” Look at how the Church has changed its opinion on social and religious issues since the 11th century

and by church I mean the Catholic one

Islam has yet to go through it’s age of enlightenment. Let’s all hope they do so soon!
