“Religious belief of just about any sort is intellectually lazy and that there is no more reason to believe in god or saints or angels than in ghosts, goblins, or the tooth fairy. It's all infantile magical thinking as far as I'm concerned, and any rational person should be embarrassed to believe any of it.”

Half of my brain believes this totally. The other half recognizes that this is based on the premise that people care more about what’s really true than about meeting other human needs and desires, like for comfort, meaning, purpose, community, love, guidance, etc. I don’t believe most (by far) people care that much about what is really true.

The quote is itself a fine example of intellectual laziness.

I agree. I mean, everyone knows that there is a tooth fairy! He probably doesn’t believe in Santa either!
