“Every ancient religion which has died out probably experienced a dwindling of respect. Those believers probably whinged too. Honestly, you Christians should get over yourselves – you're just the latest in a long, long line of gullible people. Get some historical perspective; your religion wasn't the first, and it probably won't be the last.”

New ones are popping out of the philosophical sewer daily. Moonies, Odious Scientology, demostrably false Mormonism, Branch Dividians (nice symmetry, ditto Heaven’s Gate). Every religion today started as a crack-pot cult. They are all cut of the same tattered cloth.

Leaping to conclusions without sufficient reason or evidence must be something hardwired into our genes. You’d think we’d move past it like the flatness of the Earth. Even in the atheist Soviet Union, astrology and psychics filled in the paranormal void that religion left behind. We think of freedom as a lack of restraint, but freedom from nonsensical thinking can’t simply be a lack of restraint. If it’s in our genes, then we got to work real hard to free ourselves from uncritical thinking. Your thoughts?
