“With all we know about how to prevent teen pregnancy and reduce sexually transmitted diseases, it is high time to redirect the millions of federal dollars that we squander every year on abstinence-only education to programs that actually work.”

‘Sad part about it is that a lot of those “millions of federal dollars that we squander every year on abstinence-only education… programs” go to big tax exempt corporate religious organizations that have to have more and more money to operate. Then to keep the flow of tax free dollars rolling in; they kick back via lobbyists big contributions to the very Senators and Congressmen that could put us back on the right track and change the course of America’s apparently doomed future.

If those programs work so much…..how come we still have a problem with teen pregnancy? And in Democrat strong-holds (aka urban areas) where they practically give away condoms, why is the teen pregnancy worse? Answer, you have given the freedom to have sex to children who don’t act responsibly even when they have been showed how. That doesn’t sound much like a program that works to me. At least abstinance works every time it is tried.

The U.S., the most highly religious western country also has the highest incidence of unintentional teen pregnancy in the developed world. The Netherlands, the least religious, has the lowest and the lowest incidence of abortion. Within the U.S., so called red states have higher rates of unintended teen pregnancy and abortion than the blue as well as high rates of religiosity. While this correlates with religion, it correlates more strongly with education. So, let them have their religion but do not tolerate them wasting taxpayer dollars on abstinence education. The money is CLEARLY better spent on good sex ed and biology classes.

How is this an atheist quote? Well…I suppose prayer won’t stop pregnancy. But condoms probably will!

    Chris… you are 110% correct!!!!!
