“Why are these devout believers so desperate to have everyone believe as they do? Are they so insecure in their unfounded beliefs that they must compel others into them, no matter what, including being arrogant, conceited and condescending?”

I sense that D.M. Murdock’s comment may have to do with survival of the fittest and possibly safety in numbers. Oh wait… damn, that’s Evolution and the thumpers sure as hell don’t want that.

  2. Oxymoronic Christhinker Says:

Believers, devout or otherwise, have not yet cornered the market on “being arrogant, conceited and condescending.”

  3. tech Says:

Well its like this boys you need proof that there is a God. I don’t, I guess I’m foolish enough to believe thats GOD exists.I am quiet pleased with the way I live. I feel that i’m not missing out on anything in life. One day every knee will bow. yes including the athiest.

  4. Holysmokes Says:

Well it’s nice to hear a little honesty Tech. I am glad to hear you admit that you believe without a shred of evidence. Now please give that a little critical thinking.

  5. tech Says:

Why? Didn’t you read all of my post. Critical thinking is for the unbeliever. If I believe and I don’t need proof. Then there is no need for that kind of thinking. Besides God has proven himself many times to me and other people. As far a evidence goes your the ones who are searching not me. As I said before I do hope and pray that you all find the proof you need.

  6. The Heretic Says:

So I guess the famous phrase “I think, therefore I am” just doesn’t apply to you.

  7. tech Says:

Hey man it if you feel it does by all means. You see i’m not infulenced by every wind of doctrine.

  8. Holysmokes Says:

Tech, First you say that, 1. You don’t have proof. Then you say that, 2. You don’t need proof. And lastly you state that, 3. God has proven himself to you.

Tech, not to hurt your feelings, but you are one of the most contradictory people I have ever met. You sound just like your bible.

  9. Holysmokes Says:

“If” god has proven himself to you, then obviously you have proof.

  10. Chris Says:

I think there must be a kernel of insecurity involved. If there exist non-believers who are completely unmoved by what passes for evidence in the faith community then there is either something wrong with the evidence or with the people who find it uncompelling. This is troubling to many believers. Notice, we’re not hanging around a religious site but are being preached at in our own yard. Tech is no different than the vacantly smiling missionary that darkens my door on Saturday. He admits that he must shut off his critical reasoning to swallow the koolaide. What a debasement of his god-given (chuckle) mental faculties.

  11. tech Says:

You’ve been trying to move me into your line of taught ,but I see is people who don’t believe in God and want to prove to them there is a God. Well i’m sorry .To explain the devine things of God is impossible for me. After all i’m only human. I’m saved by the grace of God.

  12. tech Says:

I would like very to post a question to Heretic , Holysmokes & Chris. What do you believe or whom do you believe in?

  13. Chris Says:

The evidence is that we live in an entirely material universe. So far, we haven’t come across any question that necessarily requires us to appeal to a supernatural source. I accept that there are questions for which we don’t have an answer and that some questions may be unanswerable, limited as we are by our evolved nature, senses and intellectual capacities. Evolution has developed in us pattern seeking, social drives and a fear of the unknown which sufficiently explain many of the logical fallacies that still plague us.

Imagine the hominid of 200,000 years ago – If there is lighting, someONE must have caused it because in our experience, things are always caused by the actions of agents – animals and other hominids. If there is a being capable of the awe inspiring act of creating lighting, he is far more powerful than us. Maybe ALL powerful. He must also bring the rains. Therefore, we ought to propitiate this being, seek his blessing that he might give us fire and rain. And maybe there are some few among us that might specialize in communicating with this Fire/Water giver and interpreting his signs. And when we fall asleep the last time, perhaps he is revealed to us at last.

That’s what I think and why I think you think the way you do.

You might consider answering a question or two yourself, Tech. But you’re wrong, my friend. No one here is trying to convince you of anything. But since you hang out here, in a den of vipers, you are going to get challenged and asked to justify your beliefs. If you’re not prepared to do that, why stay? I don’t want you to go, mind you, but dropping in to spout praise of a god we think is imaginary is interesting only a couple times. Peace.

I was nothing but a drunk one time did drugs and hung around with all the wrong people.I got into gambling big time. My life was one big mess. But then I met the master. He cleaned my life up and gave me a new life. that was 36 yrs ago.

  15. tech Says:

  16. Chris Says:

Isn’t “master” the term used by a slave? You don’t take enough credit, Tech. YOU cleaned up your life because YOU recognized that you were engaging in self-destructive behavour. My compliments to you for your transformation. It’s amazing how self-preservation or the love of a good woman can get us to behave.

P.S. Be careful with all that “being touched by the lord stuff.” These days the kids are likely to report the abuse.

  17. Holysmokes Says:

Well Tech, as for me, I have a tendency to believe evidence. If a drop of water falls on my head, first I wonder how it defied gravity and got up in the sky. Once I have figured that out, I then wonder what made it fall. I can use science to explain these things in an objective and coherent way.

I readily admit that science does not have all the answers, and likely will not in my life time. Yet science has a few trait that religions and faith do not. It admits when it is wrong AND it admits when it does not have all the answers.

I look at the rhetoric that you spout in your sermons and all I see is someone who obviously does not have the answers. So you toss your hat into the arena with an invisible being that you insist does. Yet you do this with absolutely no evidence. Do you have any idea how that makes you look to the rest of us? It makes it extremely difficult to take you seriously.

I think that is is wonderful that you have straightened you life out, but give yourself a bit of credit. Stopping destructive behavior doesn’t require magic. It requires self determination, which you obviously have. I can only recommend that you use a bit of that critical thinking to analyze this whole god thing. I know I will not change your mind, nor do I wish to. I will be the first to admit that I don’t have all the answers, however I see no reason to stop asking questions, even if they fly in the face of religious dogma. Let’s find some real facts and evidence.

  18. The Heritic Says:

When I was young, I believed in fairy tales, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and monsters under the bed. Now that I am older, I believe in things that pass the sniff test of common sense and logic.

  19. The Heretic Says:

My FSM! I misspelled my own handle…….I am descending into typo hell with The Tech. I am doomed.

  20. Robert Taylor Says:

Tech..how do you know you’ve been “saved by the grace of god’? Wasn’t that written by some “man” who tried to convince others that he was “inspired” by god? Or, was he teaching what other “men” had taught him/her? It’s all one big circular, self-serving gobbledeegook.

  21. solomon Says:

    Dear Holysmokers,
I bet you yourself does not understand what science is all about. You are just blindly believing your scholars (Dawkins or Darwins) lies. The scientist job is to figure out how things works or go about by observations & analisation.Thats all they can do.Does’nt it ever came to their mind how things work out as it is?Who ensures that it has to be that way.Who determines the gravitational pull is directed to earths centre?Don’t try to scare the viewers with science in which little knowledge is passed to human being.God knows more than science.Science is a chicken feed subject to god.
