“Christianity is the worst example of guilt trip parenting ever!”

  1. Greg Says:

I couldn’t agree more, but would extend this to all religions, not just christianity.

Indoctrinating children with silly bronze age superstitions is child abuse.

  2. Holysmokes Says:

    I agree Greg,

Especially regarding your comment about all religions. Religion is the root of “most” evil. Of course most parents genuinely believe they are doing the right thing for their kids. How can that be corrected …without creating WWIII?

  3. Greg Says:

A good start would be by removing the many privileges organized religions receive. Tax the churches, mosques and temples and allow real, open and honest debate in all media about religion without labelling it as “hate”.

  4. CaptainZero1969 Says:

With ya, Greg! Again irritated that a quote didn’t reach it’s full potential because it was too narrow.

I kind of liked the “Z group” thing introduced yesterday. The silly gentlemen keep coming at us with “hell” and seem to really not understand that there is no such place. Completely unteachable…

    Cap’n Z

  5. John Says:

Why, when you look at all the religion… everywhere, why is it just expected that it is the norm? It has to be a learned activity. Like hooking…

As for hell… I got me a big bag of marshmallows’, my friends!

  6. Oxymoronic Christhinker Says:

‘Guilt-trip parenting’ is more about the parenting than the religion. My father (dead now) was a practitioner of ‘guilt-trip parenting’ and were you to ask him he would have identified himself as Christian, though he never attended church, never read the Bible, had a general dislike of religious people, and never used any religious language or reasoning as part of his discipline and punishment. Of course, I get that certain interpretations of the sacred books are often used as a tools of abuse and oppression. This says more about the people involved than anything else. The quote is to general to be ‘Truth with a capital T.’ And all human ‘activities’ are learned, even atheism. Which is why it is important to question everything religious. But sweeping generalizations do little to point us in the right direction. Leave the condemnation of entire groups of people to the likes of Solomon.

In any case, I still choose ‘Group Z,’ assuming theists are allowed!

  7. Oxymoronic Christhinker Says:

And yes, Solomon, ‘Group Z’ is AT THE VERY LEAST as moral as ‘Group A,’ and in your case specifically, I’m guessing far more moral than you are capable of imagining. After all, Z doesn’t condemn innocents to everlasting pain and suffering, or blame the innocent for their sufferings here on earth.

Forgive me for having the audacity of informing you of what you may already know.

  8. solomon Says:

    Dear CaptainZero1969,

Are you very confident there is no HELL?
I bet youre still doubtful & worry.
Just your ill heart & Satan try to brush away the thought.

  9. PEB Says:

“Do something I don’t like and you’ll go to hell”. What sort of lesson does that teach kids?! Lazy parenting at it’s worst.
I’d stop anyone under the age of 18 going to church, mosque or any other cult establishment. Treat religion like alcohol or cigarettes. You have to choose to want it in your life.

  10. Atheist MC Says:

This is why I think all faith schools should be banned. It is dangerous to allow religious parents to send their children to an education that will not challenge their orthodoxy. At least with an enforced secular education children have a chance hearing other world views; someone rational in loco parentis.

As the for quote specifically, it is much to narrow in scope. True, aspects of catholicism play up the guilt angle mercilessly, but guilt is in inherent in all religion.

  11. Holysmokes Says:

A great start PEB, but you will never stop it from being taught in the home, even if such a thing were made illegal and with jail time involved. I think the only realistic avenue left is with “honest, two-sided education,” Teach kids science with the same enthusiasm AND intensity as religion and watch what happens. Teach what we know, not what we think we know. Yes Solomon, with evidence. At which point, it becomes a one-sided duel.

  12. solomon Says:

    To all the Atheists,

Who wants to listen to your views? There must be some powerful hands behind those wondrous & massive creations. Suddenly your lots which is originated from the disdain sperm & have just live less than half a day have the boastful guts to say bad things about god & deny god.

  13. solomon Says:

    To all the Atheists,

Who wants to listen to your views? There must be some powerful hands behind those wondrous & massive creations. Suddenly your lots which is originated from the disdain sperm & have just live less than half a day have the boastful guts to say bad things about god & deny god..

  14. Atheist MC Says:

Say it again Solomon. If you say it three times it becomes true!

  15. The Heretic Says:

Not again. It didn’t make any sense the first 2 times.

2010.01.17 (Pattani, Thailand) – A Buddhist woman is dismembered by a Muslim bomb thrown into a karaoke bar.
2010.01.17 (Pattani, Thailand) – Two civilians are gunned down by Islamic radicals in separate attacks.
2010.01.17 (Mosul, Iraq) – At least one of two men gunned down in a targeted shooting is Christian.
2010.01.17 (Kharab, Iraq) – According to reports, three brothers are dragged out of their home and shot to death on their doorstep by Muslim terrorists.
2010.01.17 (Jos, Nigeria) – Muslim youth go on a rampage, hacking about 20 Christians to death after an attack outside a church.
2010.01.17 (Chishti Sharif, Afghanistan) – Sunni hardliners open fire on a vehicle, killing six local occupants.

If anything else, group z won’t be nearly as scary. I am not a marshmallow fan though, so I will bring the jiffy pop and hotdogs.

  16. CaptainZero1969 Says:

Oxy – I take minor issue with one point. You write: “And all human ‘activities’ are learned, even atheism.”

I disagree. Take a child and educate her without ever introducing her to the concepts of supernaturalism and she’ll be an atheist by default, not by education. I’m guessing that her first encounter with theism would be some thing like “Wait, what? Run that by me again?”

She’d consider you a theist but she’d have no name for her position.

We’re happy to have you on Team Z, a member in good standing.

  17. CaptainZero1969 Says:

Sol – I’m more certain there’s no hell than I am there’s no god. The reason for this is that a moral person cannot reconcile a creator god with the idea of eternal punishment. That kind of infantile emotionalism would necessarily be infinitely beneath the dignity of such a being. It takes immoral humans to dream up something so abominable.

So, there MAY be a god. The rational position is skepticism until testable evidence is proffered and verified. There CANNOT be a hell because it’s existence presupposes that this god suffers from a human need for vengeance. Even ex-girlfriends don’t want me tortured forever!

MMM, brimstone grilled steaks. Red wine please.

  18. Greg Says:

Oxy, I have to agree with Cap’n re: ‘atheism’ not being learned. Everyone is born atheist.

But, you’re welcome on team Z for sure – any thinking theist is. Which automatically rules out Solomon and tech.

  19. The Heretic Says:

Well, if we are upping the ante to steaks……I will bring a lovely Bordeaux or maybe even an Italian Barbera. MMMMMM. Is it lunchtime yet?

  20. PEB Says:

Hmmmm. Dinner in eternal damnation. A hot Indian curry for me please. Do you think Beelzubub has a take away service?

  21. CaptainZero1969 Says:

I’m guessing the hot part won’t be a problem but the take away might be.

  22. tony cynic Says:

Going to be a bit warm at the group z party, a chilled Barossa chardonnay and a kangaroo steak, rare, for me.

  23. Bornagain A. Theist Says:

    Cap’t and Greg:

That’s my contention even in my screen name. I was born an atheist, just like Sol was. Then I was brainwashed by mythology. Now I am back to my natural state – atheist. Sort of a born again atheist. I have an e-mail address that makes reference to one’s being born godless. That is simply the truth.

Oxy, you are doing a fine job. You’re earning respect.

  24. solomon Says:

    Dear The Heretic,

The killings you cited above is actually the works of the Group Z and the only snacks that will fill your belly are the blazing jiffy pop from hell!

  25. Tony Provenzano Says:

Please show your source(s) Solomon. Did you do some of your own investigating, that would be great.

I know an article headline may be wrong at times.
You can convince me if you show some evidence.

  26. John Says:

Old sol would have better luck convincing us the Easter bunny passed pennies from his bottom!

  27. solomon Says:

    Dear Tony Provenzano,

The group Z consists of several sub groups if you look at my previous post. One of the sub group should fit the picture. Not neccessary everyone in that group Z.No need for sources.

  28. solomon Says:

    Don’t say youre not warned.

Avoid those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim to them this truth: that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except God: it may offer every ransom, (or reparation), but none will be accepted: such is the end of those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they shall have only boiling water to drink and shall be sternly punished: for they persisted in rejecting God.” (Al-Anaam, 70)

  29. solomon Says:

    This is true.I swear

    Truly, the tree of Zaqqum
Will be the food of the sinful,
Like molten brass; it will boil in their insides,
Like the boiling of scalding water.
A voice will cry: “Seize him and drag him into the midst of the Blazing Fire!
Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,
‘Taste this! Truly you were mighty and full of honour!'” (Ad-Dukhan, 43-49

  30. solomon Says:

Get back to God, theres nothing to lose.

Those who reject their Lord will have the punishment of Hell. What an evil destination! When they are flung into it they will hear it gasping harshly as it seethes. It all but bursts with rage. Each time a group is flung into it its custodians will question them: “Did no warner come to you?” They will say, “Yes indeed, a warner did come to us but we denied him and said, “Allah has sent nothing down. You are just greatly misguided.” They will say, “If only we had really listened and used our intellect, we would not have been Companions of the Blaze.” Then they will acknowledge their wrong actions. Away with the Companions of the Blaze! (Surat al-Mulk: 6-11)

  31. solomon Says:

Get back, this is the chance of your life,

They will call out, “Malik (Master), let your Lord put an end to us!” He will say, “You will stay the way you are. We brought you the truth but most of you hated the truth.” (Surat az-Zukhruf: 77-78)

  32. Greg Says:

    bleat…..bleat…..bleat…..

  33. solomon Says:

    Dear Greg,

    You will bleat in hell!
    em.. .beekkk…em.. .beekkk…
