GWG – brilliant. Laughed out loud and not just because of the 2nd glass of vino.
The subject of today’s quote is something that always rather irritates – the proposition that one cannot be good without god. The buffoons that would make this ludicrous assertion are somehow completely lacking in the quality of self-reflection that I think is an important constituent of any moral code arrived at by way of reason. As such, the morality is founded rather on absolutes – texts – which in my opinion stunts the growth of a more meaningful understanding of why it is in our best interest to be good to one another.
Tech – the phrase “Do unto others as they would do unto you” says it all. So does “Do as I say and not as I do”. Religions are always ‘doing unto others’ with little to no repercussions. And the second quote is axiomatic where religion is concerned. You can be theist or not and be a hypocrite, but it is rampant in religion (and politics!) I think that after several thousand years, atheists are sick and tired of being ‘done unto’ by hypocrites. And now, the fact that we are deriding anything religious shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Atheists are the cursed doomed lots. They have no social structure in this world like others have. They are degraded because they don’t believe in God.They have no hopes, no powerful hands to turned to.Now they are not at ease with what other religous groups have achieved, a conducive and strong social bond. They lose in this world and also lose in afterlife. They are the inhabitants of HELL!

I can’t help noticing that the most atheist countries in the world e.g. Norway have very stable, prosperous democracies. Most Islamic countries are shit holes full of corruption, injustice and violence.
I know which sort of “social structure” I would prefer.
I think the recent scandals in the catholic church make it perfectly clear that reliogious does not equal ethical. Suicide bombers make it clear also. In fact it’s hard to see how religion has managed to keep itself free from criticism as long as it has.
Don’t simply blame any wrongdoings on religion.Religion does’nt teaches that. The wrongdoings are practiced by stubborn humans who follow their lusts, just similar to the Atheists lots.
“Designating something ‘religious’ does not exempt it from ethical analysis.” …. or scientific analysis either. The Christian religion especially fails miserably in both

Religion shouldn’t be exempt from anything. Questions, ridicule, mockery and – most importantly – taxes.

The word “blasphemy” should be removed from the dictionary. Not worrying about such a concept might clear up a lot of this, “religious” taboo.
