“To be without religion is not to accept emptiness as an answer, it is to accept that as the beginning, and to embrace the unknown as new territory to explore, rather than hiding a fear of the unknown with dogma dressed as tradition.”

Yup, and it’s a great feeling.

  2. Bornagain A. Theist Says:

Yes it is, Holysmokes. Yes it is. Sometimes I am disdainful of the ignorance that the theists (be they real or be they trolls) bring to this particular table, but at other times, I try to realize that it helps us be more appreciative of where we are in regard to spirituality. To listen to Carl Sagan describe the universe is so much more rewarding than thinking the primitive thoughts contained in an ancient manuscript that is wrought with errors and worse.

  3. Atheros Says:

I just love that “I” no matter how small and insignificant, am a part of the universe. I love it, its amazing that we are all made of the same stuff as the sun, planets etc etc… Alive or dead I will still be a part of the universe as will you all – that amazes me 🙂

You don’t need a god to make you feel humble, spiritual or amazed…

  4. robb Says:

atheros…….that was a lovely comment……..do you accept the premise
that matter, as we currently understand it , is neither created or destroyed…..it simply changes…………..???

  5. CaptainZero1969 Says:

I agree with the spirit of the quote but not the wording. I don’t think there is an unknown. What happens when we die? We die. Period. There isn’t an unknown. Our consciousness is lost. It seems like the worst kind of wish thinking to believe we are somehow owed something more than our present existence. This view cannot but help one appreciate what we have here and now. To view this life as a short stop on the way to eternity has the effect of diminishing one’s respect for life.

  6. PEB Says:

I like the spirit of the quote but I think it’s a bit more simple for me. I was born an atheist and I shall die one. I have never known the fear of dogma or the false sense of belonging it brings.
I’ve never believed there is a god so I haven’t ‘lost’ anything.
Heaven doesn’t interest me and hell doesn’t frighten me as they are both equally ridiculous.
I have a love for nature and the world around me and think it was a tradgedy the day gods were invented and took all the credit.

  7. solomon Says:

You can be categorise as what is told by God “CRUEL PEOPLE”. Cruel to god and cruel to your soul. Posses STONE hearts that would not understand anything. Even being told or warned or see gods signs but still chooses to deny just following owns lusts & SATAN. If thats the way you are then, its of no concern to have pity on you & its your choice. You chooses HELL.

  8. Sally Ann Says:

Well this is a strange site.I been here a few times but up to his point have been quite. Now don’t get me wrong God doesn’t need anyone to pick up for him.I have to ask all you people out there who seem like its not enough to be an atheist ,but you have to tear down every religion there is.I’m Salvation Army.I know a lot of people come to this site to push their beliefs. Its good thing they do for if they didn’t you fellows would drive yourselves crazy.I find it hard to believe that some you are for real.Just the same I’ve seen a few atheist converts.I try to find the good qualities in people.Surely you can’t find any harm in doing good can you? Thats what life all about to me. Doing good.

  9. PEB Says:

Hi Sally Ann. You can be ‘good’ and be an atheist at the same time. When I give money to charity or help out in some way then I do it for the benefit of people worse off than I am.
I don’t care if they are atheists, christians, muslims, black, white, gay straight, home or abroad. I help out because I can and not because I’d like to be rewarded for it.
Can you and the Salvation army say the same thing?

Personally you are right in one comment you made. I would tear down every religion there is.

  10. Admin Says:

I don’t mind the odd profanity on this site but if you write long rants full of foul language I will delete them.

  11. CaptainZero1969 Says:

Hey Sally Ann – I wonder if you have ever been on a religious site and issued a blanket disparagement when they write about how evil unbelievers are? You can’t go to a religious site and fail to notice that. Secondly, I find your implication that atheists would oppose or not participate in good works to be demonstrably false. We just don’t require an eternal reward to be nice. In my eyes, the person who is good for goodness sake is morally superior to one who is good for god-ness sake.

  12. Bornagain A. Theist Says:

    Greetings, Sally Ann:

Everyone who has ever been born was born an atheist. You were born and atheist and likely remain an atheist with regard to Zeus or the many hundreds of gods that you don’t believe in. Most of us just believe in one fewer gods than you do. You ask isn’t it enough to just be an atheist. Would it be enough for you if you saw friends and neighbors all around you raising their children to worship Zeus or Baal, setting up special schools and buildings, printing “In Zeus We Trust” on public money, including the phrase “One Nation, under Baal, Indivisible, with liberty….” I imagine you would pitch a hissy fit. You would think the world had gone crazy. You would presume that the people who believed such nonsense were mentally challenged.

The likelihood that Zeus or Baal are actually gods are exactly the same as as the likelihood that the god you worship is actually a god. Zero! There simply are no such things. There never have been.

Our society can never fully realize its potential as long as people give of their thoughts or money or time or efforts into something “make believe” or “pretend”.

Stick around with us. Ask questions, make comments, teach and learn. We would just prefer to live life without living it “imaginary”.

  13. solomon Says:

Dear Admin, noted & ‘apology’. Sometimes just can’t substitute with other suitable words.

  14. solomon Says:

Edmond, its unfortunate that my respond to you has been deleted.

  15. Atheros Says:

    Thats a deep question…

I would have to say, that I agree with your statement. We, like everything else in the universe exist, then die but the matter that made everything has to go somewhere.

Sally Ann – Religion has a very negative effect on all of us. I like to think I do plenty of good for others, not just financially either. You don’t need a god to do good – its quite simple.

We are all, all of us, born atheists – it would be nice if we could all stay that way!

  16. Sally Ann Says:

I don’t plan on sticking around and my advice to anyone who believes in God is to leave as well. Let dead bury their dead.there are many others in the world who need our help. Lets plant our seeds in fertile soil.Lets help those who want help.As for the comment that was made on giving. If you care to read Matt. 6:1-21.Thats where we get our direction. So long folks.

  17. Atheros Says:

    Aww Sally…

Thats not very Christian is it? Come in here – slag us off sow some discord and leave…

    LOL Love it!

  18. solomon Says:

Dear Sally Ann, don’t be easily get carried away by the confessions of the Atheists. They are just trapping you into belief they are good people.I wish you could only see thru their souls. God knows whats in their hearts either they raise their voices or lowered it. Theres no good in people who says bad things about god. They are only pretending thought by their cunning close accomplice the SAtAN. They talk about charity, those were the norms of religionists. But did they mention their most despicable acts! HOMOSEX! Does good and sane people perform those acts. And you won’t even know what other bad deeds they did behind you. They are the people who would do all kinds of mischiefs & breaking every gods rules believing they could get away with it. Yeah they can get away with law or the police but they could not with god.

  19. Sally Ann Says:

Yep no sense talking to a wall. Again I bid you all farewell. No need to comment I won’t be here.

  20. H t k a Says:

    Guess I’ll leave too.

  21. Bornagain A. Theist Says:

    Aww Sally…

Don’t you also get your directions from Hosea 13:16? What about Exodus 20:5?

But you want to stick to Matthew 8:21-22 when Jesus decided to be a total asshole.

“Another of his disciples said to him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father. But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

Disregarding that it makes no sense at all – dead burying dead – it is a heartless and arrogant comment to attribute to this imaginary Jesus.

  22. Margaret Says:

I spent my youth as a believer, raised in a family of believers. Only in middle age did I mature enough to become an atheist. Today’s quote says to me that many people hold on to their religion because it is habit, and it is too scary to actually think death is permanent non-existence, good is not always rewarded, and bad is not always punished. Being grown-up means seeing through fairy tales and knowing “happily ever after” is a platitude. When I initially de-converted, the truth that I had been lied to for most of my life felt like a painful punch in the gut. But every since then, life makes more sense, and I am stronger. Religion stunted my spiritual growth and my mind. The childish part of me that believed in god was too immature to deal with life as it is, but I have since moved past that to cherishing the new reality that atheism has opened up for me. The Carl Sagan style of awe, and living each day to give it personal meaning is a higher morality than sucking up to a tyrant god in fear of eternal torture. Many people do not flock to atheism because it is not warm and cuddly. It actually requires work to think about what it all means without a diety. But the alternative, believing in a god or gods, is the equivalent of eating nothing but sugary snacks and sodas, and then not understanding why the body becomes sickly. Just as a candy bar and a Mountain Dew may be tasty but is not a healthy meal, likewise, religion is not a healthy, realistic mindset.

  23. ThatsaCrock Says:

Well its seems like its only me left Lights out. Now you guys are left where began IN THE DARK. Argue with yourselves. Well maybe you still have solomon. Click !!!!!!!!

  24. PEB Says:

Perhaps Sally Ann is off to sell her daughter into slavery? (Exodus 21:7).

Or perhaps she off to convert (er…I mean help) some poor sod somewhere. According to the salvation army they will help anyone regardless of age, gender, colour or creed……but not sexual orientation or religion.

The Salvation army is a muli-million dollar organisation no different to Pepsi, Nike or Wallmart. They all have the same aims; they just use different methods.

  25. solomon Says:

Margaret is way out swayed from the true path following every self lustful urgh without knowledge guessing selfishly & still with that hidden doubt deep in her heart.

  26. John Says:

Well, preacher solomon; you are the one swayed from the truth. Your style of mind poison well never stop a free mind from thinking or a free spirit from living life to the fullest. You always rant how Evolution is untrue well; Evolution is happening as we live! A fine example: just 1400 short years ago, the known muslin world started following a mere man who was having sex with a 9 year old girl. Today, we would put mere man in jail for those crimes. However and unfortunately; I understand the muslim world would then have to stone the poor little girl to death for asking the old man for sex. Maybe islam is a throw back to some dark times in Human history.

  27. solomon Says:

John, you keep on ranting following your unknowledgeable guessing lusts while we are hapilly living under gods supervisions until death comes to you. And when you woke up from your grave you will then sigh…Who wake us from our sleep? Ohh…this wil be terrible and hard days…

  28. robb Says:

    a little note to sally ann………..and i KNOW you’ll see this……

why dont you take your breathless girl-scout wide-eyed enthusiasm and sit on it.

you really ought to be glad for a little website like this….it lets you take your beliefs in for a workout……..and it just MIGHT give you one or two ideas to ponder.
do you do much pondering sally ann ???? or are your beliefs so solid in your mind and heart that qny questioning would be pointless?

no one here is telling you that you’re wrong…..they just dont happen to
agree with you………….and , really, isnt that the challenge YOU LIVE FOR? to lead the “LOST” down the path to the LORD !!!

c’mon sally ann…………dont run off ………….. stick around and have a little fun arguing about ideas… i think you’ll enjoy it..!!

  29. robb Says:

    a little note to solomon………..

how come, according to you, everyone on this website is “RANTING”
    except you??

  30. John Says:

preacher solomon… when I am dead I am dead.

  31. Margaret Says:

I think Solomon may be jealous of me because I am having more fun than he is . After all, holding onto religion is such a drag. Let the fun continue.

    1. You refine heroin for a living, but you have a moral objection to liquor.

    2. You own a $3,000 machine gun and $5,000 rocket launcher, but you can’t afford shoes.

    3. You have more wives than teeth.

4… You wipe your butt with your bare hand, but consider bacon “unclean.”

    5. You think vests come in two styles: bullet-proof and suicide.

    6. You can’t think of anyone you haven’t declared Jihad against.

7.. You consider television dangerous, but routinely carry explosives in your clothing.

    8. You were amazed to discover that cell phones have uses other than setting off roadside bombs.

    9. You have nothing against women and think every man should own at least four.

    10. : )

  32. John Says:

And as for “unknowledgeable” the beautiful Aiza sitting next to me in her beautiful skimpy black bikini says that you… preacher solomon, are practicing “al-taqiya” and need to have your bottom spanked with your karan for lying and being a traitor to true islam.

  33. CaptainZero1969 Says:

    ROFLMAO, Marg-o!

  34. margaret Says:

    11. Naked=anything but a Burka

  35. Holysmokes Says:

Well I for one am glad little miss Mary Ann is gone. The sort of arrogance she displayed is precisely the sort of thing we do not need. For example:

    1. Touting the salvation army??? Now there’s a bigoted egotistical organization, if ever I’ve seen one. A bunch of beggars who only help those they deem worthy.

    2. Referencing passages from bronze age text. How quaint. Boo!

    3. Lacks sufficient intelligence to realize that her whole god delusion is likely wrong, but is afraid to give it serious thought.

In other words, a typical programmed-brainwashed whinning cry baby. Good riddance!

What we could use, are a few theists who actually understand there is a possibility that they are wrong, but are savvy enough to admit it. Those kind of folks would ad a little insight to these discussions. Oh, Solomon, when we get to hell, I’d like to shake your hand. Just make sure it’s not the one you wipe your bacon ridden backside with.

  36. PEB Says:

Does anyone know of a theist forum like this one? I’m in the mood for ‘doing a solomon’ and telling them all they aren’t going to heaven.

  37. steve Says:

    Hello folks;

I came back to see if there had been any improvement, but I believe things have gotten worse. I have read through the last month’s postings, and found that there have been some insightful comments and some really good AQOTD’s – but they are too few, and laced with troll dung.

I can no longer abide while racism, bigotry, willful ignorance, homophobia, misogyny, idiocy and magic are intentionally given free rein.

So, understand that I am tired of the arrogantly stupid. This site has simply become a platform for a troll. It makes the site really boring.

I am sorry for the loss.

Admin, please consider an idiot filter.

  38. solomon Says:

Steve, you can carry your ass off this site if you disagree on things. The only idiot filter to be considered is upon you.

  39. solomon Says:

We can live happily without the 11 silly unnecessary created lies that you posted. Its your fate that you should worry about. You are following the dangerous path to Hell! Later you will sigh…..”If only I did’nt follow the Satan and the rest of the Atheists fools. Solomon has been true & right all along….”

  40. Edmond Says:

What’s with all the griping about trolls? I’ve never understood that. We all have the same right to post on this site, just because one person has a disparaging point of view doesn’t mean they can’t be heard (and refuted). It’s not as if someone’s post is going to jump off the screen and poke you in the eyes. Many so-called “trolls” make me laugh, and if they say something outrageous or incendiary, there’s nothing wrong with answering them back. This is a PUBLIC forum, right? So the “troll” isn’t the only person who is going to see the exchange. A silent, fence-sitting observer might take away an important insight by reading such a debate, it doesn’t HAVE to be ONLY for the benefit of the troll.

I think too many people say “Don’t feed the troll”. I say, it’s good for everyone to see how the troll eats! Words aren’t really food you know, it’s not as if they’re going to starve and go away.

  41. solomon Says:

After you’re dead you will rise again from your grave. Its just a simple concept. You did’nt exists before. God made you alive and its simple to make you dead or alive as many times as he wishes. When you woke up from your grave, you will shiver up to your spine. “Damn….what Solomon says is true..Damn..this will be hard days….”

  42. solomon Says:

A little thoughtful on your part. May you find the true path.

  43. GoodWithoutGod Says:

C’mon people, Sally Anne is obviously a troll – tech perhaps? htka? Troll

  44. solomon Says:

If you’re accusing everybody’s a troll then you are a ‘BIG LIAR’. That’s what you are.
