I wish I was as confident as Ms. Lalli! The certainty that the Supreme Court in the U.S. would hold the line on religious encroachment into secular government erorded significantly during the Bush presidency. We currently have a court that is far more sympathetic to ‘christian ideals’, whatever those are.

  2. Bornagain A. Theist Says:

Indeed, CZ. I was about to say that we were on the brink of being a theocracy.

The Bush’s did cause a lot of that, but there are masses of citizens who mindlessly think that school prayer and pressing “In God We Trust” onto our currency is perfectly alright – when in fact is is far from alright. They must share some of the blame, too.

Many people in this country would have happily voted the systemically evil Mike Huckabee into the office of President. And while the president alone cannot change the constitution, this worthless bastard wanted to incorporate biblical principals into it. It’s very frightening.

And while I have the podium, I thought I would toss out a thought for discussion. Why would a professed Muslim (even though a severely uninformed, uneducated, illogical one) constantly – I mean constantly – make reference to homosexuals during his admonitions toward atheists. After all, there are only 4 – count ’em 4 – noteworthy mentions of homosexuality in the Quran. Those are: 7:80-81, 26:165-6, 27:54-55 and 29:28-29. It may also be noted that the verses are not particularly harsh in their admonitions. http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/quran/gay/long.html

Generally, when an individual is found to be overly condemning of homosexuality, they are referred to as being homophobic. Going further, there are a number of examples (quite a few PUBLIC examples) of homophobic persons actually being homosexual’s themselves – and they seem to have made all the fuss to try to distract people from discovering their own situation.

Cutting to the chase; do we possibly have a peter puffer right in our midst who is ashamed and trying to cover that shame?

    I’m just sayin’.

    Bornagain A. Theist,

    Me…a homosex???

I need someone to deliver BAT to the correct institution..

    Whaaa ka ka ka…

  4. solomon Says:

Bush…though evil…sometimes have some sense in promoting religious concepts in politics. The believe in God is what it takes for confuse leaders to end up safe rather than the unbelievers hypocrasy that will end them up in destruction & hell.

  5. John Says:

On with the crusades…. Is that what you’d wish for, girly-mon?

  6. CaptainZero1969 Says:

I think you are right on target about brother Sol. I mean, it’s pathological how he manages to raise the issue of homosexuality regardless of what the actual conversation is about. Almost every day. Which makes it VERY obvious that he’s thinking about gays all the bloody time. You’re also correct to point out that there have been a number of high profile gay-haters that ended up caught with male prostitutes or doing the airport bathroom two-step. Psychologists would say that his vehemence expresses a secret wish. I don’t know if that’s true in this case but I’d not be surprised.

She doth protest too much, methinks.

  7. Atheist MC Says:

It is of course perfectly fine for Sol to be gay.

  8. Margaret Says:

Today’s quote is too optimistic. We cannot predict the future. It is possible future amendments to the constitution could turn our gov’t into a theocracy. If more power gets concentrated in the hands of a few ultrawealthy supranational interests, and the general public mutates into a poorly educated, apathetic uderclass living in poverty who can easily be manipulated by promises that Jesus will give them a mansion in heaven, sure, the overlords will use religion to hold that power. The current financial downturn is hurting the middle class, and I have heard folks say the US could turn into a nation of Haves and Have Nots. The Have Nots will embrace the very ideology that keeps them down. The Haves will laugh all the way to the bank. The clergy will kiss the Haves and piss on the Have Nots, smiling the whole time.

  9. Braathwaate Says:

It does seem (at least here in the U.S.) that many of the religious people leading the anti-gay movement have turned out to be gay!

  10. Atheist MC Says:

For the quote. It’s odd that in the U.K we have a constitutional religion yet our politicians in the main “don’t do god”. There are a few exceptions but it sometimes feels as though we are a secular nation.
The U.S on the other hand is constitutionally secular but its government is rife with religion.

On gay Solomon: Actually the reason he craps on about “Homosex” [sic] is because as atheists we have defended the gay movement on this site, so in his little mind we are all gay and he thinks it’s a way to needle us. In fact of course statistically 10% of us are, as are Muslims.

  11. Matl Thompson Says:

    On the quote:
USAPATRIOT Act? Goodbye Bill of Rights. New laws and acts can easily trounce the Constitution. And from what I’ve read, the people who vote on these things don’t even bother to read or understand the things they vote on. In not quite as confident as Nica Lalli.

    On Sol being gay:
Seems that way. One of our elected representatives here in California has made life awful for homosexuals. And recently, he was caught with a male prostitute, outed, and I’m told is now trying to be a gay rights activist. So don’t sweat it, Sol. If you are gay, that is. Its fine.

  12. solomon Says:

    Matl Thomson,
You all are out of argument thats it.Thîs indicates youre losing the battle. You all can only utter words, thats all. In the end you will all be Doomed!

  13. solomon Says:

    Shame on you Gays…
A ‘man’ possess a fake womans heart.
    Shame on you….

  14. solomon Says:

    Theres a distinct personality trait…
    I wonder why..

  15. Edmond Says:

Solomon, you are weird. You are weirdly obsessed with homosexuality. The truth is that: atheist=someone who is not fooled by the nonsense lies of scripture, someone who likes LOGICAL reasons for condemning something, and someone who is more likely to focus on human rights over pointless dogmatic assertions.
