“The complaint that the theory of evolution ‘encourages people to lead reckless and materialistic lifestyles’ neatly exposes the true basis of religion – social control. Just because evolution doesn’t keep people cowering in fear of eternal damnation, doesn’t make it any the less true. Sadly pursuit of truth doesn’t seem to be of much importance to religious leaders.”

Actually, evolution neither encourages or discourages recklessness. Now, social development is what encourages and discourages recklessness and “moral” and “immoral” acts.

You are nothing more than a sheep to them. A “flock” to be heard with that thick green-backed coat that you wear, ready to be sheared and stripped.

    great 8th………..

i think the quote is accurate……..however……i would change
” social control ” to, simply, CONTROL.

  3. Marie Says:

“Theory”?, evolution is no longer considered a theory, it is an evidence based fact.

  4. Atheist MC Says:

Well it’s still a theory in the scientific sense. Like the theory of gravity.

However the quote is spot on. Evolution says nothing about how society should behave and particular moral lessons shold not be drawn from it. What can be inferred however is that we have evolved as a cooperative and altrusistic species, thus we have morals… how we interpret that is up to us. Religion needless to say (although I keep saying it) has nothing to offer in the way of moral guidance either.

  5. Atheist MC Says:

Actually, just another note on Marie’s comment.
Creationists and for that matter a lot of biology students miss the point because they mis-attribute the word “theory” to the observed process of evolution. The theory is not evolution, but the mechanism by which it occurs. Even before Darwin many scientists were aware that species were not immutable, they just did not have a credible mechanism to explain why. What Darwin and Wallace came up with is the “theory” that evolution is driven by natural selection. Since then of course the predictive power of this theory and the refinements from molecular biology and genetics has made this the accepted model.

BRAVO BRAVO. What great lengths people go through to try and discredit God. Its laughable.

  7. Ernie Says:

Great lengths are hardly needed. A quick look at polls, stats, and studys clearly show that religion certainly does not have a monopoly on morality.

  8. CaptainZero Says:

I didn’t see anyone here trying to discredit god, Tech. Not today at any rate. Evolution is testable science and it has made testable predictions. It has passed these tests. If one’s theology conflicts with it, so much the worse for the theology. It’s a bit like forming a religion around the heart felt belief that humans can fly if they just flap hard enough. You may believe it with your whole being but proving it to the rest of us is going to be tough. Eventually reality intrudes…messily.

  9. Simon Says:

The debate over the validity of evolution is over and has been for the best part of 100 years. SPECIES EVOLVE, THEY ARE NOT CREATED.

  10. dadidu Says:

Evolution is a hoax. It is intended to divert the doctrine of creation
& recreation. Nothing can evolute without a first design or blueprint of anything. Then who creates the 1st design?

I think GreatEighthSin is himself the Messiah Dajjal (Antichrist). Every description points to him.
